There was also the Planning & Infrastructure bill with extra anti-nature clauses snuck in at the last minute and the Heathrow expansion that involves moving the M25

Labour party today:
- Disabled people can’t drive Audis, BMWs and Mercedes on Motability. No to £25k Audis but £36k Nissans are fine
- Discredited PFI to return for funding NHS projects
- Trial by jury to be axed except for most serious cases

That’s just today

Reminder that the term "pyrrhic victory" is Ireland erasure.

The Battle of Clontarf makes very clear the term should instead be "Boruic victory".

I can't speak for what was said at the protests, but seeing people react to an anodyne statement like "sacred spaces should not be used to promote activities in violation of international law" as if it were a vicious slur is clarifying.
Zohran Mamdani chastised a Manhattan synagogue that hosted an event promoting migration to Israel and settlements in occupied territories. His stance further tested his strained relationship with pro-Israel Jews in New York.

Sensible Centrists were huge supporters of Starmer, told us he was going to do wonderous things as a human rights lawyer and insisted his competence would fix everything.

There's simply no reason to listen to them about anything ever again.
Bit of a test case here for “is liberalism still a real thing, or is it just a political version of a collection of Labubus that you show off to your friends” IMO.

You know for a fact they're only doing this because juries are routinely finding anti-genocide and climate change protestors innocent.

James is chin-stroking about the end of democracy here, and I’d point out that the key issue for almost two decades has been a political/media class increasingly making it very clear they will choose actual Norsefire fascism over any kind of backsliding on Thatcherism, if pushed archive.ph/qBzgr

Is nuclear war winnable?

I would usually say no but if a nuke hit me right now I would no longer see posts about Keir Starmer having sex.

And I'd consider that a win.

1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

Absolutely rules that Sensibles' only criticism of the CIA agent is she accurately criticised Biden.

And I'll remind you that it was only a few months ago that all the Sensible Centrists were openly agreeing that they prefer fascists to the left because criticism from the left stings more.
I do not want Zack Polanski to listen to Sensible Centrists. Nor will I concede some of their criticisms about him are correct when their entire economic platform is:

1) Means testing for the vulnerable.
2) More austerity as a solution to everything.
3) Even more neoliberal deregulation.

The Linehan verdict and BBC coverage of it reminds me that liberalism requires institutions to be good and impartial and it has no method of fixing society if those institutions fail.

(I know in this case a lot of liberals are transphobes and will like this verdict).

For some reason I've suddenly remembered those two Palestine activists who were convicted of harassment (later overturned on appeal) for filming themselves asking a Labour MP questions about Gaza.
Today I learned that stalking a 17 year old girl, writing up a 400 page 'dossier' about her, falsely reporting her to the police and smashing her phone does not constitute 'harassment'.

One wonders what *would*.
Graham Linehan cleared of harassment but guilty of criminal damage to trans activist's phone

It is genuinely insane to see a judge describe Graham Linehan as a “generally credible witness” in a trial where he claimed Sophia Brooks has been engaged in “trans activism” since 2013 (when she would’ve been 6 years old), then, when challenged, claimed her drivers license lied about her age.
