Access to the sacraments is the tip of the iceberg. They won't allow clergy access bc they aren't running a proper detention facility. The scandal that religious protests are highlighting is not that the detainees' religious rights are being violated, but that ALL their rights are being violated.

He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.

ICE has threatened a “sh*t show” in Broadview today, per a village statement.

“ICE is seeking to intimidate the Village of Broadview because we dared exercise our 1st Amendment constitutional rights calling for an end to their war on Broadview. We will not be intimidated. We are Broadview strong.”
The following statement ICE Action can be attributed to the Village of Broadview: “In retaliation for the Village of Broadview yesterday calling on the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency to “stop making war on our community”, ICE agents this morning informed the Broadview Police Department that there will be “a sh*t show” in Broadview today. ICE agents told the BFD that they will be launching enforcement action throughout all of Broadview throughout the day. Additionally, ICE informed BPD officials that ICE agents will be again deploying chemical arms, such as tear gas, pepper spray, etc. against American citizens, our residents, and our first responders. Broadview Mayor Katrina Thompson is urging Broadview residents to take all necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families in order to stay out of harm’s way. Let’s be clear. ICE is seeking to intimidate the Village of Broadview because we dared exercise our 1st Amendment constitutional rights calling for an end to their war on Broadview. We will not be intimidated. We are Broadview strong.”

Elon Musk and DOGE are now publicly targeting Lutheran groups for cuts.

Among those listed: Global Refuge (formerly LIRS), one of 6 faith-based groups that have long helped the govt resettle refugees.

Not clear why Musk contends this funding, which is longstanding and well known, is "illegal."
