Access to the sacraments is the tip of the iceberg. They won't allow clergy access bc they aren't running a proper detention facility. The scandal that religious protests are highlighting is not that the detainees' religious rights are being violated, but that ALL their rights are being violated.
He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.

ICE has threatened a “sh*t show” in Broadview today, per a village statement.

“ICE is seeking to intimidate the Village of Broadview because we dared exercise our 1st Amendment constitutional rights calling for an end to their war on Broadview. We will not be intimidated. We are Broadview strong.”

Here’s a brief story, with receipts about Trump administration corruption and crypto industry collusion that WILL be investigated once the majority of the House is filled with people who take ethics and the Constitution seriously:

For my day job, I've worked extensively with Lutheran Social Services over the last 3 years. Great organization. Truly gob smacked here
Elon Musk and DOGE are now publicly targeting Lutheran groups for cuts.

Among those listed: Global Refuge (formerly LIRS), one of 6 faith-based groups that have long helped the govt resettle refugees.

Not clear why Musk contends this funding, which is longstanding and well known, is "illegal."

This page also makes it ridiculously easy to email your Senators too. I just sent 4 emails to each of my Senators in less than 5 minutes.

You have 5 minutes to literally save lives. Please use them well. Please.
If you have not called your Senators and Representatives to urge them to vote no on these disastrous nominations, today is a really good day to do so.

Hopefully they will listen. Even if they ignore you, you will have made your voice heard.

What he's announcing is a concentration camp. A deeply illegal, unconstitutional, anti-human rights atrocity. Anyone who supports this is complicit. Anyone in any federal service, military or otherwise, is morally obligated to refuse to carry out any orders related to this deeply criminal act.
Trump announces an executive order authorizing a 30,000 capacity migrant detention center in Guantanamo.

"Some of them are so bad we don't even trust the countries to hold them because we don't want them coming back, so we're going to send them out to Guatanamo Bay."

Seeing this performance was a truly exhilarating musical experience…not something I expected from a piece I thought had no surprises for me. Don’t miss this fantastic conversation about it!!
In March I saw a truly exciting performance of Handel's Messiah—it did many things I hadn't seen before, but its chief innovation was to take the libretto seriously. I talked with its conductor, the brilliant John Trotter, and our conversation is now here for you: comment.org/the-messiah-...
