Silver-gilt beaker London, hallmarked for 1496-7
"This remarkable beaker is an exceptionally rare survival, one of a handful of indisputably English drinking vessels dating before 1500"
The 'TW' initials may be those of a late 17thC owner, Thomas Whately. (V& Museum, London)

Getting excited... for #FossilFriday ! Our Morrison Ankylosaur monograph may be published online in a week. Hopefully, this will lead to a fix in many ankylosaur phylogenies. A dozen known Morrison ankylosaur sites spanning 4 states. Who would have think it 35 years ago?

A late medieval pocket sundial from Freiburg. The portable sundial once contained a small compass in the circular recess, helping to align the sundial along the north–south axis so the correct time could be determined.

My forthcoming novel JITTERBUG is about characters who've been dealt rough hands in their lives, and how each of them has adapted to survive. It's also about how great historical events, maybe even the survival of humanity, can hinge on the actions of a handful of people caught at the epicentre.

In a meeting talking about ideas for a level I just rambled about obscure Victorian furniture we could use and different real world places such as particular Scottish library. Was told I was incredibly insightful with all the wired interesting things I suggest. Only time my love reference was noted.
What is the best compliment you ever received? Putting aside whether or not you believed it.

If you like an author's work, the best thing you can do is buy it. The second best thing you can do is ask your local library to buy it. Or, do both!
A reminder that the median book deal for a debut author in the UK is £7000, paid over 12-18 months. (from 2022 Society of Authors report). Some of your favourite writers are struggling. societyofauthors.org/2022/12/06/a....

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 6:
The trad publishing industry has many flaws. But if you want to be part of it, you have to understand it. That means: gatekeeping; filling in forms; accepting editorial advice. Don't blame the system if you don't get exactly what you want. Embrace it, or step away.
