Ok also ex-fundiegelical & church basement school alum, other recurring rants include psych diagnostic labels & insurance cos, anti-piracy shit being record label propaganda, and how the US fucked up eggs because it was cheaper than being humane to chickens
So we’re getting holiday plans figured out and it’s got me thinking about gifts this year and I’d like to include something from Palestinian Christians in the baskets I usually do.
Does anybody have specific recommendations on where to buy from?
Would also love book recommendations

A Border Patrol agent in Round Lake Beach on the morning of Friday 10/18 tells the person filming his license plate, "we change plates out every day."
And if you want to be able to move big heavy stuff in the moment out in the wild, building that strength makes you more capable of moving that big heavy thing when you’re actually there and the moment comes.
Something to consider about doing something isn’t just the outcome of what you’re doing, it’s what doing the thing does to you.
e.g. weight training doesn’t really do anything. you don’t have some big heavy thing you’ve moved from one place to another to point at. but it DOES make you stronger.

They’re all fucking getting paid, except for the musician.”

Something maybe worth noting is that all the frog costumes and signs and good-natured memeing came about because a wide spectrum of Americans saw someone in direct, brave confrontation with ICE—getting pepperballed and standing their ground—and thought “that’s awesome. That person is a hero”

My sister was driving earlier and happened to stumble upon the Little Village one. A bunch of people with signs near the arch. She saw someone holding a sign that said “ICE kidnapped my dad.”
it should also be noted that it wasn’t the only one. there were satellite neighborhood protests with hundreds of people in several neighborhoods too
the times is reporting that the protest stretched 22 blocks in chicago

being highly critical about the AI cheerleading in the social sciences/governance has one hundred percent boxed me out of funding, as US universities seem to be primarily invested in backfilling evidence ("evidence") for the current hype wave
“People [in tech jobs] worry that not being seen as uncritical AI cheerleaders will be a career-limiting move…for those who aren't insiders in the tech industry, it's vital that you understand that you've been presented with an extremely distorted view about what tech workers really think about AI”
Okay, for the folks who asked: here's the majority AI view, writing up the reasonable, thoughtful view on AI that the vast majority of people in tech hold, that gets overshadowed by the bluster and hype of the tycoons trying to shill their nonsense. anildash.com/2025/10/17/t... Please share!
feels like a good time to remind everyone that the evil stepfather of pan’s labyrinth, the ultimate villain in a film that includes the freaky eyeball hands monster, is hunting down anti-fascists. during wwII.

GdT has always been a real one
“When they rob us of art and emotion, that leads us towards the aesthetics of fascism. In this film, all the sets are real, the decor is human-sized, there are painstakingly created miniatures... It’s there to remind us that art is not only necessary, it is urgent. And AI can go fuck itself!”

This is the same thing the fash have done with doing nazi shit > get called Nazis > doing more overt nazi shit but now claiming it’s ‘trolling’ in response to being called nazis.

But none of it really matters because none of this shit is acceptable behavior, even as ‘’’jokes’’’
‘Who was president in 2020’ is the more broadly relevant measure of how damaged the collective short term memory has become but that people already managed to forget that the ‘no kings’ concept is a direct response to trump posting memes of himself depicted as a monarch ~8 months ago is up there too
oh right also cosigning on everyone warning people to NOT sit on the fucking ground in the middle of a protest.

when less lethals are used “correctly” they are meant to be shot at the ground. If you are closer to ground, you are more likely to be grievously injured or killed by them.
Regular reminder that the term for munitions like foam roads is “less lethals”

Not “non-lethal,” not “less THAN lethals”

“Less lethal”

And this isn’t like a ‘how we should describe them’ rhetoric thing, this is just literally what they’re called. like. by the weapons manufacturers.

I'd be very careful bringing weed to protests where you might get got by federal forces even in legal states but I'm not your dad or a lawyer
And that’s been like, all the time for the last 15 years, steadily getting worse, and now the federal govt has been preemptively doing all this menacing shit. There IS risk. And people deserve to both make an informed choice about taking that risk and recognition for showing up anyway.
There absolutely is risk. It’s ridiculous to pretend there isn’t. People get arrested at largely symbolic liberal actions all the time. There are mass shootings in this country all the fucking time. There are vehicular attacks on protests, which have effectively been encouraged by the state.
I’ve seen so much shit this week just discouraging and attempting to demobilize people and that shit sucks

I’ve also seen a lot of shit downplaying the risks that come with any kind of public protest action, let alone this one specifically, and that shit also sucks.
And if you want to participate in a public action as unidentifiably as possible, you’re probably better off going in nondescript older clothes you don’t wear on the daily than like… making a bunch of highly trackable purchases of new clothes and gear in the week or so before.
If you want to document yourself and your presence at an action, consider the risk of being swept up in mass prosecutions and how that documentation could be weaponized.

That doesn’t mean DON’T DO IT. It just means be deliberate in if and how you do it, & how you store or share that documentation.
Consider what risks you are willing to take. Consider what you might want to do in the future, and how your actions today might affect that.
People telling you there are NO real risks are either ignorant or flat out lying, but some risks are worth taking. You get to make that choice for yourself.
Fear in this case meaning both fear of state violence and/or fear of it not being “enough” or not doing it “right.”

The options here are not limited to total perfect anonymity vs geotagging yourself with your name and contact info, or ‘immediately fix everything’ vs ‘do nothing.’
There is essentially nothing to be gained in discouraging people from participating in an action they believe is worthwhile.
Be careful, be smart, be prepared for the worst, but don’t let fear keep you from taking the opportunity to participate in something you think is constructive and worthwhile.
No single action or individual tactic is itself going to be enough to stop what is happening and reverse the erosion of civil liberties that has already occurred, let alone fully liberate us.

That’s why it’s important and worthwhile to support, attend, and engage with a wide range of actions.

For the first time in more than 100 years, Chinook salmon have been spotted at the confluence of the Sprague and Williamson rivers in Chiloquin, the government seat of the Klamath Tribes in Southern Oregon.

Just a year after four dams were removed, a group of fall Chinook have migrated nearly 300 miles into the Upper Klamath Basin.
