So mini-biz is on hiatus until the end of the month. You can still check out my stock and order things, they just won’t go out until I get back (assuming mail service has resumed).

And you’ll even get 15% off your order while I’m gone!

(Except still no US orders.)

Don’t worry, I’m not taking them across the ocean. Just to Calgary first.

I have four loaves of bread in my suitcase.

Yeah I’m a good wanderer and I find local places.
loxy.bsky.social
I don’t think I have any plans to be near there. I’m staying down by Kennington and then by Camden town.

Yeah I have to be a bit careful of relying on a chip shop diet, but it’ll definitely be an option. ;)
loxy.bsky.social
Yeah I love a green veggie so I might have to force that into my diet.

I’m sorry you went through that. This just reads as someone who is struggling with chronic illness. Sigh.

Yeah i have all my trains booked so that I have email receipts in case of delays. But also I never have anything I have to do after a train day. Just wandering a new place.

Yeah I get fresh eggs here and they just live on the shelf. ;)
loxy.bsky.social
Yeah I can definitely rely on some of my Australia knowledge at the supermarket ;)

Oh yeah I’ve gotten a lot of tips and like right now I’m looking at going to the bar of a Michelin star restaurant and getting some snacks instead of doing the whole meal deal.

Bezos-ism at its finest. The Pope’s “divisive” take is that Christians should take care of the poor and the vulnerable. Which does offend greedy people, I suppose?

My food plan: booked hotels with free breakfast, go out for lunch, scrounge for dinner with grocery store stuff.
loxy.bsky.social
As much as I love eggs, I think I only have a couple hotels with kitchens so I won’t be looking too hard for them!

Yeah I’ve been looking at a lot of restaurants just for out and about lunches and pretty easily it is £25. Which is nearly $50 Canadian. So I will need to be choosy. But less tipping I guess.

Good time for people to travel to Canada! Your dollars from most places will go further here!

I’m curious to see the grocery cost there. Essentially everything is double my dollar, so already restaurant meals seem expensive.

Really picked a good time to do this.
Graph of Canadian dollar vs British pound over the last two years and it is a very upward line from 1.65 to 1.88

I got asked by my counsellor what I am most excited about for my UK trip.

And in the moment, I said “getting there” because travel makes me very anxious.

But then I added, “wandering around towns.”

But my favourite thing is actually wandering grocery stores in other places.

Costco pumpkin pies remind me of my dad.

I feel this sentence needed a smiley emoji but I don’t know which one.

And some of them come by it naturally but many don’t. Especially as they age.

When I hear celebs on food podcasts, I always wonder about how often they get to eat those things that they love. The pressure is so intense for them to be rail thin.

In the 1950s, National Geographic wanted Kodachrome nature photography that really popped in print. One trick was to put foreground subjects (hikers, etc.) in bright colors; it was called the "red shirt school". Dick Lasher's Pinto makes this the greatest red shirt school photo of all time.

Tomorrow, we will talk about this photo.
A red Ford Pinto hatchback angles across a narrow gravel forest service road, a blue enduro motorcycle on a rear hitch carrier. Tall firs frame the view. Beyond them, a towering ash cloud from a pyroclastic density flow billows skyward. Photo by Richard Kent Lasher, May 18, 1980.
