It's a censorship engine designed to promote ideas that Elon Musk likes and suppress ideas that Elon Musk does not like. I really don't get why this evident fact - that Musk openly admits! - is so hard for so many people to understand
An X user asks Elon Musk why they’re seeing tweets from left-wing lawmakers.

Musk: “Because we are failing very badly with the recommendations algorithm. Doing my best to address this.”

1/ So it looks like grand juries may be one of those Chesterton's Fence things. For years, I thought the grand jury system was useless since they almost always do what the prosecutor asks. But now we see they are no-billing on some charges and prosecutors are trying to bypass them w/ chicanery.

Securing defections from the authoritarian regime is the centerpiece of any successful pro-democracy resistance.

Politics isn’t fandom—when someone leaves the authoritarian coalition, we should take it as a win.
BASH: We have seen these attacks from the president at other people. It's not new. And I haven't heard you speak out about it until it was directed at you.

MARJORIE TAYLOR GREENE: I think that's fair criticism. And I would like to say, humbly, I'm sorry for taking part in the toxic politics.

the astonishing thing about this wave of denialism is that we have more or less decidedly hit the point where clean energy is the *cheaper* option by some distance
I'm kind of baffled how the "moderates" have apparently all decided to turn against climate policy at once, just as China reaches green electrostate liftoff mode. I thought these people were all about National Greatness and making Hard Choices

“We killed a bird, cooked it, and ate it as part of a feast day,” is to my knowledge a concept which every culture has. How can one possible fail at comprehending the Thanksgiving turkey?
It’s how you end up with language like “paperwork American” or the idea that Thanksgiving turkey is some sort of natural ethno-national tradition that certain other groups are incapable of ever appreciating

Lots of hard, shitty lessons being learned from this presidency. And one of the many I hope you're learning is, white supremacy is incompatible with reality, and cannot exist without historical revisionism.
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️

This isn't to say that there's never a use for tariffs. They're instrumental in the early stages of economic development, helping to cultivate the expertise and infrastructure for particular industries.

This is not a situation that the United States has found itself in since the 19th century
Tariffs are the pro-labor policy of fools. All you're doing is robbing your exporters to pay non-exporters

In the context of Maine: you're stealing from the lobsterman, in order to pay the lumberman. Except you're not even really paying the lumberman, you're lining the pockets of his boss.
Good thing no Dem stuck their neck out for Trumps' extremely stupid tariffs ( @golden.house.gov )

Tariffs are consistently both one of Trump’s worst issues and the most highly salient issues for voters and I still think we don’t talk about them enough

Scolding people for being shocked is bad. "You don't pay as much attention to the world as I do" isn't great for broadening a coalition. Also, "all bad stuff is the same" is wrong. Refusal to gate-keep Nazis from a major party *is* new. And it's valuable to remain shocked by things you can explain.
If you’re shocked by the Heritage Foundation defending Tucker Carlson — who’s done more to normalize antisemitism & white nationalism than almost anyone — you haven’t been paying attention. That same extremism is at the core of Project 2025, from mass deportations to gutting core democratic rights.
1. A watershed moment.

The President of the Heritage Foundation and Heritage Action, Kevin Roberts , has announced that the organization is standing by Tucker Carlson in the aftermath of Tucker’s interview with neo-Nazi Nick Fuentes.

I know Trump voters who can be kind and generous and loving. If you ask why they voted for Trump they'll give you misinfo and bigotry.
