The administration contains parents of special needs kids and kids with severe health issues. They're going to continue to get their needs met but ordinary folks are going to be genocided in a thousand slow and insidious ways.

Just bc a book contains a protagonist between 10 and 30, especially a female protagnoist, doesn't mean it's YA. Just bc the book is written by a woman (or someone you incorrectly assume is a woman), doesn't make it YA. Just bc a book is fun, written colloquially, or has romance doesn't make it YA.

If you’re unfamiliar, I suggest reading about abandoned battery manufacturing towns across Mexico and Latin America where battery manufacturing has left the rivers unpotable and the soil and air full of lead and mercury. Once enough people start dying, companies abandon them and rebuild elsewhere.
