I'm gonna try and go back to Friday fasting from social media.

Saying this out loud here so as to make myself do it.
Peak John the Baptist talk in today's gospel reading. I know that our sweet-hearted deacon is going to sound like the wrath of God when she reads it. Can't wait. Mental high five to everyone around me. 🕯

Guess y’all don’t appreciate beauty!
“‘All that delightful youth forebears to spend,
Molestful age inherits, and the ground
Will have us. Therefore, while we’re young, my friend.’
The Latin’s vulgar, but the advice is sound.
Youth, have no pity. Leave no farthing here
For age to invest in compromise and fear.

The other night my wife and I went to see our friends’ daughter’s orchestra performance. It was so lovely! But it got me to thinking about music and perfection in the age of AI.

This is the irrational season
when love blooms bright and wild.
Had Mary been filled with reason
there’d have been no room for the child.

Christian - In the Bleak Mid-winter
Secular - All I Want for Christmas Is You

*hides forever*
Christian: O Come All Ye Faithful
Secular: Let It Snow
What is your favorite "Christian" Christmas song and what is your favorite "Secular" Christmas song?

I will probably always adore "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" for Christian.

And "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" for secular.

For happiness I long have sought
And pleasure dearly I have bought:
I missed of all but now I see
'Tis found in Christ the appletree. 🕯🎵

Two things are true: FIFA is corrupt and that award was bunk, and also, in America, soccer games are one of the most diverse and inclusive crowds out there. Any maga person who decided to try it out would likely die on sight

At my parish, on the Sunday nearest St Nicholas Day, kids leave their shoes in the narthex and the saint fills them with candy during mass. 🕯

Is this high church or low church? 😊

The famous Amos passage in today's M.P. 🕯Just as relevant now as it was then.

OK- folks. Just making a point.
I keep careful track of my grocery (and other) bank card spending month by month. So I compared November 2024 with November 2025. nb, we did not host Thanksgiving either year.

2025 was 28.5% more than 2024.

THESIS:

everything theologically important about the doctrine of the virgin birth of Christ would be retained if it had been the case that Mary and Joseph wed, had three kids, then Joseph went on a year-long business trip (roll with it) and while he was away Mary conceived by the Holy Spirit

We wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home. Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish; and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation.

Much depends on whether you see Christmas as a religious holiday or as a secular holiday.

This is how actual religion plays out!

I'm not there yet though. 😊😌
Got a set of Christmas-themed stickers in my stationery Advent calendar and I’ve been putting them in my liturgical planner. I’m most proud of these choices: a wine glass and gingerbread man labeled “cookie” for Maundy Thursday.

My dear friend with whom I had lunch today had not heard of Amos! So I sent her a copy of Chapter 5. 🕯Just trying to be nice.

I did play this song a lot.

Seriously, Lord, take this badge off of me. I honestly can't use it any more.🎵

See you in heaven.
