This is the primary reason for the USAID cuts. Trump / Musk / Miller know the budgetary cost is minimal and they don't care about budget deficits anyway.

They chose this path precisely because it's the quickest and easiest way to kill millions of nonwhite people and impoverish millions more.
The death toll from the Trump Administration’s foreign aid cuts could total more than the number of Jewish people killed in the Holocaust, Ukrainians killed in the Holodomor, and Cambodians killed in the genocide by the Khmer Rouge, combined.

USAID cuts could lead to 14 million deaths over the next five years, researchers say
An analysis published Monday in the medical journal The Lancet projects that cuts to the agency will lead to more deaths from diseases like AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis.

imagine a world where the national press gives these stories 1/10 the coverage they gave to right wingers getting booed on college campuses
Two brothers, ages 8 and 10, stared nervously into news cameras on June 19, speaking with quiet determination to a group of onlookers much older than themselves.

“We need our dad back home,” the 8-year-old said.

ICE took custody of their father, Kerlin Moreno-Orellana, that morning.

Democratic voters issued a massive rebuke of their own party last year by just refusing to show up on election day & instead of a major shakeup its leaders are spending big on consultants to find a Youtube salesman that can help a small group of septuagenarians no one likes cling to power.

they are really going for it with mass detention and that means concentration camps, that means mass deaths, that means plenty of citizens rounded up too, especially political dissidents. if you still can’t see where this train is headed idk what to tell you anymore
If this bill becomes law, ICE will become the best-resourced law enforcement agency in the history of the country, with more funding for detention than the entire federal Bureau of Prisons.

more validation to the theory that retailers locking up all their items was a product of conservative brainworms infecting boardrooms instead of some rational response to actual conditions
After locking their products up in cases and eliminating DEI programs to appease the Trump administration, Target has been steadily losing customers and sales. The CEO says he’s going to stop the decline by using “technology and AI” to become “more agile.”
Target is in big trouble.
Target is still struggling hard
The retailer flipped its full-year outlook from positive to negative territory, citing backlash to its DEI rollbacks on top of a “highly challenging environment.”

happy for Khalil of course but i must say, "lawful permanent resident not charged with any crimes, imprisoned by president's stormtroopers for having forbidden opinions about US-abetted genocide, briefly allowed to touch his child" is a hell of a thing to find oneself feeling joy and relief about
A HAPPY UPDATE! Mahmoud Khalil was allowed a "contact" visit—without plexiglass divider—with his wife and newborn son this morning before his immigration hearing, ACLU tells me, so I think we can safely assume that he was finally able to hold his child for the first time.
NEW: Mahmoud Khalil's attorneys urgently ask Judge Farbiarz to order ICE to permit Khalil to hold his newborn son today "for the most elementary human reasons." ICE has so far denied the request, despite his wife and child having made the 1,500-mile trip. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

UnitedHealth secretly pressured nurses to change patients' records to include DNRs (Do Not Resuscitate) without their consent, so those patients would die instead of being saved with medical interventions that could cost UnitedHealth money.

This is murder.
