I have published more than 70 peer reviewed scientific journal articles. I am a reviewer at 50+ journals, and an editor at one journal.

I cannot for the life of me fathom why some journals care so much about reference formatting style. If I can find the paper, you've cited it fine.

Ever feel like your town gets more nighttime tornadoes than others?

Here's a map of tornadoes by time of day (nighttime tors are plotted on top of daytime tors to stand out). I feel for you Tulsa, Jackson, Birmingham, Nashville...

Just sent you an email with the path to the install. There's a lot of Matts on derecho, so my username is not easy to find lol!

I've got MPASSIT compiled on Derecho if you want to copy it to quickly try it out.

i fully agree with this theory and in my actual field, british architectural history, The Problem is that Salisbury Cathedral is built on top of a lake and no i am not exaggerating
between this and the FSO Safer (another ship at serious risk of exploding) I’m convinced every field has its “yeah, this is the problem that keeps me up at night” and I’m on a quest to learn about all of them
yes yes we all know about the Edmund Fitzgerald, rest her soul, but did you know about the ship laden with explosives that sank in the mouth of the Thames in 1944 and could explode at any minute and which attempts to disarm keep failing

The world would be a better place if we all spent more time looking at cool stuff in the sky.

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

Just trying to simulate a tornado but the ring of turbulence I added turned out to be the one ring of power, and I have captured the direct attention of Sauron himself.

If a judge orders you to release funds for hungry children and you continue to fight it, it’s time to take a step back and re-evaluate how you got there. No political leverage is worth corrupting your soul.

Thanks--that'd be amazing! I'll definitely reach out.

Hmmm I have some ideas for using that tornado duration dataset with the SPORK dataset if it's available somewhere!

Joking aside, I'd definitely be curious to see the methods behind this! I'm surprised that there aren't more really long wind swaths (also 6/29/12 either split into two swaths or isn't showing up where I thought it'd be).

Just when you think Hurricane Melissa is done intensifying, it says, “Are you sure?” Drop in central pressure measured by both NOAA and AF between center fixes suggests Melissa may incredibly be intensifying further.

Something I love about archival films is that when someone had a couple feet of film left on a roll they'd often use it to film their cat. So many films finish with a few seconds of cats

So, here's some cats from the 1950s and 60s. They were loved
