This whole NYT account about the weaponization of DOJ is beyond disturbing. Kinda feels like the US government fell in January.

O Financial Times de ontem traz matéria sobre a volta das perucas à moda. Diz que hoje elas parecem muito mais naturais.

Falei da minha convicção de que um homem que dissimula o que tem por cima da cabeça facilmente falseia o que se passa dentro dela.

Minha mulher riu e me acusou de cabelismo.

Listen to the corporate centrists. They do not care about people. Their only priority is protecting the capitalist machine that feeds them.

They’ll sacrifice anyone, normalize fascism, do anything if it means the checks keep coming in.

"(Hitler's) feeling for men is not that they co-exist, but that they are capable of being arranged and standardized by a superior intellect...." - E.B. White, author of Charlotte's Web

An insistence that power should follow "superiority" is essential to fascism.

Gregory Bovino is exactly who E.B. White — author of 'Charlotte's Web' — warned us about
DHS named its North Carolina anti-immigrant effort "Operation Charlotte's Web." In 1940, White wrote of the "smell" that "rises" from those who "adjust to fascism" over freedom.

This is especially key because we know that the January 6th seditionists, like all Trumpists are prone to crimes like sexually abusing children, and spousal abuse. They are, of course, setting the stage for allowing January 6th seditionists to be able to legally sexually assault children.
This is an important new line being crossed. Trump isn't just pardoning the act of attempting to overthrow the government on January 6: he's pardoning *those people* for committing crimes generally. He may be creating a group of (federally) legally untouchable people.

We bought into the "post scarcity" narrative because digital tech feels so magic and ethereal but we need to get back to an understanding of the material costs and effects of those systems. They are not very post-scarce in reality.

I will no doubt read and enjoy all your very good Nuzzi jokes, but I also want to say earnestly, so many of us (myself included) are on the verge of being pushed out of this industry and it's genuinely so dispiriting to see the worst among us, ethics-wise, get such preferential treatment.

This is the end of science in the US it is a MASSIVE crackdown an literally everyone this racist bullshit would stop basically all science in its tracks and allow the administration to deny funding to basically whoever they wanted to

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
“The prohibited activities would include joint research, co-authorship on papers, and advising a foreign graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. The language is retroactive, meaning any interactions during the previous 5 years could make a scientist ineligible for future federal funding.”
