Using the notwithstanding clause to strip away human rights is an attack on democracy and must be fought with everything we've got. It started with the SaskParty's Bill-137 and now it's Alberta with Bill-2. This is rising authoritarianism (a la USA) and we need to call it out for what it is.

I wrote this in 2019 to remind myself why I was dragging my ass out of bed at 5:30AM to make ADHD comics before work.

Six years later… it still hits.

Just a reminder that the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation is not a holiday to celebrate.

It is an acknowledgement & remembrance.

We need to not lose sight of that.

Breaking!

City of Burnaby just became first city in Canada to join arms embargo movement against Israel AND the first Apartheid-Free City, breaking ties with Israeli apartheid and settler colonialism.

We've been organizing for months towards this precedent in colonial Canada.

Read aloud to your kids.

Keep reading aloud to them, well after they can read any book to themselves.

Do the character voices.

Talk together about the characters and the problems they face.

(Yes, I am still reading to 11yo every night before bed.)

Yesterday, at 87, my dad & former Ontario NDP leader Stephen Lewis, stood for an hour by the road in his old riding.

As a Jewish elder, he stood against genocide embodying the values he has always championed. I am so proud to see him on the right side of history – as always. ❤️

Hey, artists, in case you were wondering if your work matters: I'm a scientist working on climate change and biodiversity, and I would not be who I am today without The Lorax, The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, The Last Unicorn, and The X-Files. I know I'm not alone. Thank you for all you do.
