I was 61 years old (I’m 62 now!) when I learned that you can tell a juvenile bird by its “gape flange” - that fleshy area right behind its beak, that allows it to “open wide” for its parent-provided early meals. As the bird matures, the flange disappears. #BirdOfTheDay #JuvenileBird #EastCoastKin
