Most of the posts are just silly, but a few are about how Mr. Nipples gave them nightmares 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I need everyone to know that on the crochet subreddit the mods made a big post about how they're taking a week off because there was too much fighting/political posts. so there's currently no mods on r/crochet and people are being absolutely insane

😂😂😂 The NYT explainer on “Who is Bad Bunny?” really told me who their readers are (or who they want them to be.)
Q: Why will football be featured during the Bad Bunny concert?*

A: The Bad Bunny concert is fantastic exposure for the NFL and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to put the game of American football in front of fans of the biggest musical artist in the world.
FAQs for This Weekend’s Bad Bunny Concert Featuring Football
What time is kickoff? The Bad Bunny concert kicks off around 8:00 or 8:30 p.m., but there will be pre-concert entertainment starting at 6:30 p.m. f...

This is only related in a sideways manner, but: the story of any small slice of humanity is the story of humanity, just boiled down and distilled. So:

In 2020, we had a lot of conversations about harassment at SF/F conventions, and Isaac Asimov came up several times.
the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex

I’m watching the replay of Canada vs Italy on mixed doubles now!
It’s that wonderful time of the year when I can put on the tv every evening and just watch curling. 🥌

My pop culture style icons are
Punky Brewster, Penelope Garcia (Criminal Minds), Ms. Frizzle, and early Cyndi Lauper. I’m not waiting until I’m old to piss people off with my bright plumage. I’m doing it now 💖
Currently arguing with @thewayoftheid.bsky.social about our style references. I am Lost Boys, Designing Women, Harlem Nights & Muppets. She is Muppets, Designing Women,John Hughes movies & Working Girl with a whiff of Murphy Brown. We will age into Golden Girls. I'm Dorothy, she's Blanche. Yours?

I ended my subscription a while back and haven’t missed it. I replaced it by supporting the work of striking Pittsburgh journalists.
I believe the debate about whether Bezos is "obligated to fund $100m+ annual losses" misses the point. He intentionally expanded those losses by millions of dollars for basic corruption reasons, so that the Trump administration would be nicer to Amazon and Blue Origin slate.com/business/202...
Jeff Bezos Killed the Washington Post
The billionaire wanted the Post to die, because a vigorous, well-resourced newspaper does not help his bottom line.

I was literally just talking at length yesterday about how I don’t think about my gender much until I run into a wall, usually via a cis dude locked into rigid scripts.

It doesn’t even have to be violent, sexual, or extreme — it can be banal & “harmless” exclusion of women from camaraderie & trust.

Ewwwwwww. I write tons of letters of rec. I have never commented on a student’s appearance (or anything else unrelated to their professional ability). Then again, according to this guy it’s because I’m not a man. (What an awful definition of man.)
This is the Yale professor's explanation for why he described the physical attractiveness of a student in an email to Epstein. He explicitly says he regrets nothing about their association.

Again, I'm so happy Yale hired David Brooks to restore trust.

I know what I’m reading next…
I just saw an excerpt of Tim Curry’s memoir that includes him talking about the affair he had with Miss Piggy on the set of Muppet Treasure Island. I am so delighted.

Near the end of a very good thread (read all of it). We have to do the uncomfortable work of reckoning with abusers so we can see the warning signs of the next one.
Something to think about not just in the present moment, but in the future. Those who create harm must reckon with those they harmed & make amends. In the meantime, whether they do or don’t, do we owe them socializing, professional opportunities, our time, attention, energy, engagement? No. We don’t

The Cure won 2 Grammys tonight (of course in non-televised categories). I remember in the 90s when they were nommed, Robert Smith said if they won he’d break up the band because it was a sign they were terrible. They’ve obviously been my favorite band since I was about 11 years old 😄
