On a single day in June, two journalists in New Jersey and one in Texas — over 2,000 miles apart — were charged for covering public meetings and publishing police blotter.

The arrests show that authorities can use prosecutions to chill reporting.

The Tracker documented nearly as many assaults of journalists in 2025 — 170 — as it did in the previous three years combined.

Half of those arrested this year were assaulted by officers in the lead-up to or in the course of being detained.

“But I know one reporter who mastered a new skill they don’t teach in journalism school...While his hands are behind him in zip ties, he can pull out his phone and still type out emergency messages asking for help. I’ve been on the receiving end of quite a few of those."

Yeah...been there
From LA to Chicago, press arrests were used to silence protest coverage across the country in 2025.

Each arrest signaled a shift in how authorities police information and those who gather it.

We gave Jay Bhattacharya an opportunity to clarify his vaccine stance: does he REALLY believe that the vaccine is worse than the disease? Instead, he launched into a defense of MAHA as the future of scientific inquiry, and never really gave us a straight answer...

Mike Johnson wants to dismantle the ACA because of Obama. Its just that simple. It has nothing to do with money
Despite the fact that a significant number of swing-district Republicans want to join Dems to vote for a clean bill to extend ACA subsidies which would easily pass the House, Mike Johnson refuses to bring it to the floor. NBC:
