I’ve added the script for Wake Up Dead Man to my site. This is the final shooting script, so it has stuff that was cut and moved around, which I always think is more interesting to see than a conformed cleaned up version. Enjoy! www.rian-johnson.com/screenplays

I’m going to keep hammering this point: the excesses of ICE we see now are entirely contiguous with our system of policing more broadly, and the reason that almost no politician wants to threaten real consequences for ICE agents is because it opens the door to making the same demands of the cops

something I think about often is how disliking a writer on a personal level can alter your perception of their work even if you don't mean it to, because of how much less willing it can make you to open up to it, read generously, and extend it the benefit of the doubt

endlessly frustrating how seemingly like 95% of trans allyship rhetoric is based on framing transphobia as bad primarily for reasons other than(/implicitly more important than) how it actually harms trans people in themselves

So rarely hear the phrase “legitimate concerns” being used with climate change protestors, hunger striking peace activists, trans people who want to live without fear, and on and on
For so long , many who could have challenged bigotry & bullying have bowed down meekly to the notion of “but these people have legitimate concerns” - at the same time they have found it easy to attack and belittle progressiveness - still the cowardly kids that cheer the bully

SHAME on everyone who has pushed and paid for this. You are not feminists. You are not allies. You KNOWINGLY work with ultra-conservative and far right organisations. SHAME on you.

Also, your daughters think you’re shitheads.
The Women's Institute has been forced into excluding trans women too

If your choice is between an existential risk to your organisation, vs being a fascist collaborator, and you make the difficult choice to be a collaborator...

...then you are still a collaborator.
Like, I'm sorry the fascists are giving you difficult choices. But that's what fascists fucking do. The only legit answer is "fuck you make me". The only answer that shows you have actual fucking principles not preferences is "fuck you make me". And that sucks. But here we are.

When I say most expensive month I mean it, I'm already at low funds and in urgent need of help
Well, it's December, the Most Expensive Month and on top of that, disability benefits for the next months are wonky because of the holidays.

I could really use some help surviving.

rewatched part one of Paradise Towers. I'd been putting this one off for a while, I think because I was worried it wouldn't be as good as I'd remembered, but nope, still a delight. Time and the Rani -> this is maybe the biggest instant glow-up in the show's whole history.

3/4 into rewatching Spearhead from Space on the Dr Who season 7 boxset. I'd remembered it as being good, but honestly kind of stunned at just how good. how sharp, how deft, how gripping. that verisimilitude that feels strikingly unlike what the show was doing even a couple of years later.

Got permission to post this; one of the trans women who was assaulted last week by a gang of anti-trans creeps has a gofundme up to help her with medical and survival costs while she recovers from a concussion. If you're able to help, please do.

one of Doctor Who's most charmingly idiosyncratic creative voices. shaped one of the show's most singular and compelling seasons. wrote one of my favourite opening lines to any book: "Events cast shadows before them, but the huger shadows creep over us unseen." will be missed.
Christopher H Bidmead : a warm, engaging and hugely intelligent man who enjoyed putting the cat among the pigeons on interviews. In real life though, he was approachable and kind: and made the nicest coffee I’ve ever had. Here is is at home in Dec 2013 when he kindly asked me round.
RIP Chris x

Basically, a sincere perspective goes a long way. One of the first things I try to do when writing an established character is to ask "How do the fundamental things about this character actually feel to them?" Yes, they fly - but what does flying feel like? How doe sit differ to this other flyer?
Mhm, once you really nail your everyman then their sincerity draws everyone into the fiction no matter what.

Which, now I say it, is exactly what Kurt Busiek said to start this whole thread, so its gone a bit ouroboros.
