I’ve spent a lot of the last three years investigating the rise of anti-trans politics. Often, it came back to the controversy over trans women athletes.

So I teamed up with @pablo.show to look into the leading figure on the issue: Riley Gaines.

How right-wing superstar Riley Gaines built an anti-trans empire
The swimmer tied a trans woman for fifth. The MAGA industrial complex took care of the rest.

This absolutely astounding episode taught me that:

1) Riley Gaines LOST outright to three women

2) Riley Gaines is a liar who makes up stories for attention, and

3) Riley Gaines is an opportunist who will vilify a group of people NOT abusing women to make money
PTFO collaborated with @msjpauly.bsky.social and @motherjones.com on an investigation into Riley Gaines.

Riley’s messaging about trans athletes involves “predatory men” and “sexual assault.”

But there’s an important story multiple ex-teammates at Kentucky want you to know: youtu.be/iKUl8lkuGOc?...

In an era defined by political divisions and massive wealth accumulation for the richest Americans, billionaires are spending unprecedented amounts on U.S. politics.

As a result, politicians are more dependent on their donations than ever before.
How billionaires took over American politics
The current concentration of wealth is unlike anything in history. So is billionaires’ involvement in politics.

But THEN you have to support your contrary claim with verifiable and reproducible evidence. JUST disagreeing with something does not make it science. MAHA has no interest in proving their claims - they just want to sell you snake oil.

Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?
November 10, 2025 at 12:53 AM
@kaine.senate.gov - the Republicans already took back an agreed to deal by clawing back bipartisan funding. I am astonished you are naive enough to think an ACA vote will happen. You should be communicating why the shut down is the Rs fault instead of giving them an out.

As someone who gets told "you have to love your parents" when I mention that I needed to cut my mother off for my own mental well-being, no you don't.

That's an earned title. Being a parent isn't making a kid, it's raising a kid. This guy is not a father. He's just a selfish dick.
