Today - and every day - is a good day to read Justice Stevens’ dissent in Heller v DC. The bonkers 5-4 decision that not only made it legal to carry firearms in DC but also declared that the first 13 words of 2A were “merely preferatory”. www.law.cornell.edu/supct/html/0...

Dear Democrats: As you prepare for the 2026 election...

America doesn't need a strong Republican party.

You are under no obligation to reach across the aisle to people who have tried to destroy democracy.

I want you to demonstrate that the rule of law applies to congress.

OK?

reminder to cis male writers:

If you publish words in the public square (that's what "publish" means)

they are public

and no longer yours to control

nobody owes tagging you or talking to you privately if they're gonna critique what you said

that is the inherent risk of making things

welcome

So - it's becoming clear that the endgame for our zoning advocacy should be a "kit of parts" for both buildings + zoning rules. A toolbox that works on all lot sizes (including small lots).

It will be 2 pieces:
1. Town centres (attached here, w no side yard)
2. Distributed (w side yards)

So much of our infrastructure, planning, environmental, and road safety measures seem to be based around politicians' fear of slightly inconveniencing easily-angered motorists. Pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users are barely considered in their calculations.

Remember this? The most amazing thing about this remarkable 2002 car commercial is that it didn’t seem to realize at the time, or perhaps didn’t care, how effectively it made the point that cars and car infrastructure are a HUGE waste of space in cities. Saw a post today that advised writers to stop writing as if a human will read it and start writing for an LLM that will be summarising.

As someone who really enjoyed trying to develop a peculiar but readable authorial voice, I find this incredibly depressing.
