An amazing amount of work went into this bsky.app/profile/ucla... study/report/infomaps, etc on the damaging legacy of racist highway construction in communities and cities up and down the state.

How many books does a fiction title have to sell to be considered successful in the Canadian market?

500 copies.
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Driving in this city is bonkers. Everyone is too fast, too impatient, no pedestrian right of way, like, at all. Felt safer driving in the GTA to be honest (though maybe it has changed too)

It's insane how much power over our world we've given to so few billionaires who, at the end of the day, are pathetic, immature, clueless weirdos.
Everything about this might be the saddest thing I’ve ever seen

When I helped plan (as a rep of Vancouver) the very 1st Mayors Climate Summit in Copenhagen at COP15, we chose the slogan “Cities Act.” But for cities to lead & act on #ClimateAction, we need nations to FUND, empower & position cities. The media needs to stop calling it a peace plan. It's a Republican surrender plan for Europe. Why? Because Republicans have embraced fascist plutocracy and Europe isn't.

Trump’s signals to Zelensky and Europe: Accept this plan or you’re on your own | CNN
The 28-point plan hammered out by US and Russian envoys and put to Ukraine this week came with a deadline and an implicit threat: Sign up or face the risk of being abandoned.

Stunning development: Senators now confirm the Trump admin’s 28-point “peace plan” for Ukraine wasn’t a U.S. plan at all. It was a Russian wish list. Follow along. This is crazy. 1/

Municipal Board needs to go away. They act like a court of law with high priced lawyers on both sides. Then they just make gut feel rulings based on no set criteria. Imagine giving a tenant the power to veto what a building owner does with its property. How is that even legal?

Changing our lifestyle to tackle the climate crisis is expensive but, you know what? It's only a very small fraction of the money that will cost us the consequences of not changing it.
The most insanely frustrating thing about the #ClimateCrisis is how the breakthrough we so clearly need isn’t technological. It’s just a collective willingness, a determination even, to change in ways that would clearly be SO MUCH BETTER than the clear and obvious consequences of NOT changing.

Here’s something that’s really important for everyone to understand.

If we design our cities just for cars, they fail everyone, including drivers.

If we design our cities with many great CHOICES in how to get around, they work better for everyone, including drivers.

Spread the word.
