Equally uninformed about music, art and science but likely to post on any regardless. ECM nerd and Gerhard Richter obsessive. If I'm playing music: yes, it's supposed to sound like that.

Resurrection: an occasionally baffling and meandering wander through cinematic genres, enlivened by some excellent performances (who was that child?) and a mammoth 40 minute single take for the final section, capped by a stunning final image. #LFF2025

The segment with the young girl and the conman was pretty engaging I thought. Some of the earlier sections, though: not so much. Magnificent final shot in the cinema.

Brothers in Arms. I'd seen Dire Straits play a belter of a gig in front of a home crowd on the Love Over Gold tour and had looked forward to this some years later. Couldn't believe how dull it was.

And you were the first person to recommend him to me 👍

Pynchon might not be awake but then again he might, as *who knows where he is*.

Bigotry? I'm sure it was just...oh
Post that encourages voting in the NYC Mayoral election for Andrew Cuomo, as "He's a proud American", as opposed to the "other candidate" who is "a Ugandan-born Indian."

Met some really good people, some of whom I've now met in real life, mostly from music chat.

I once posted about being unhappy that an author's new book wasn't going to be published until after my holiday: he got in touch and couriered round an advance copy so I could take it with me. Dude!

My partner reckons they were all drunk and were going - quietly, they thought - "SHHHH" to each other.

But he's been given an extended whinge in the Guardian about how he was doing the right thing and it's fine to go to his shows, so that's all right then.

£1.99? What the hell?

Anyone who could write America, The Boy in the Bubble or The Cool, Cool River could have a claim to that title. The over-talented **** wrote them all.

I've just been to a gig that sounded like a child with infinite patience playing an electric guitar fed through a badly tuned shortwave radio in the middle of a war zone. But it was all of £8, and the audience who stayed listened with commendable attention and quiet. Give me that any day.

That's the killer, isn't it? Spending a sizeable amount on a ticket and being stuck next to some gobshites who should have stayed in the bar.

Peart was superb at playing Rush songs, but his attempts at jazz or swing were borderline painful.

The Gabriel gig in Newcastle on that tour. Still one of the best gigs I've ever seen.

Lots of stacks of paper towels, mainly!

Oops. Today's pickups and a delivery: a few more than I'd planned 😬 Wasn't going to leave a couple of these sitting around though...
Four records (vinyl for the younger folk): Recordings from the Åland Islands by Jeremiah Chiu and Marta Sofia Honer; Ensamseglaren by Anna Högberg Attack; Ghosted III by Oren Ambarchi, Johan Berthling and Andreas Werliin; and Touch This Fragment Surface of Earth by Marja Ahti. Some vinyl records and a CD - At The Deer Head Inn: The Complete Recordings by Keith Jarrett, Gary Peacock and Paul Motian; Sketches and Ballads by Michael Wertmüller and friends; and Asymptote Versatile by Éliane Radigue. Four second-hand records (yes yes, vinyls if you really must, but please don't): Jahrmarkt/Local Fair by the Globe Unity Orchestra; The 5th Power by Lester Bowie; The Early Quintet by Manfred Schoof; and an early eponymous record by The Pierre Favre Quartett, the cover of which shows the quartet (Favre, Irene Schweizer, Peter Kowald and Evan Parker) in which someone appears to have stolen the very young-looking Evan's beard.
