#Gaza’s war: 2 years too long.

🔴 Famine confirmed in Gaza governorate
🔴 455 malnutrition-related deaths
🔴 Almost all cropland damaged, inaccessible, or both

The State of Israel has banned UNRWA from bringing in aid for over 7 months.
Lift the siege.

The vampire did come out during the day, using a sun umbrella (from the blood bank)
moonbaseotago.bsky.social
Yeah I attended that meeting, it was organised by one of the many ratepayers organisations (so many splitters I can't keep track which) - a bit cookery, big fans of the anti-vaxxer, I was with a small lefty contingent supporting the vampire among others
moonbaseotago.bsky.social
Yeah that was my feeling, the vampire did talk a lot more sense than most of the candidates
moonbaseotago.bsky.social
I will note that in today's Ōtepoti mayoral election the antivaxxer was outvoted by the vampire by almost 2 to 1

Govt to cut #JobSeeker benefit for 18 & 19 year olds who’s parents earn over $65,000, even if the teens have a disability or health condition. With #CostOfLiving & the job shortage they’re cranking up stress levels to 11, all to meet a target.
My #cartoon today about hard-nosed #NZpol
Cartoon. Title: “Job Seeee-e-e-e” Image shows PM Christopher Luxon at the open hatch of a small plane, high above farmland. He’s leaning out, and holding up a parachute pack, labelled “Job Seeker” He’s calling out to someone falling from the plane, “And I’ve kept your parachute because you kids from low-income homes need some motivation” Then he adds, “Don’t let that disability slow you down!”

In Gaza, hunger doesn’t knock — it moves in.
It tucks the children into bed with empty stomachs.
It whispers through the night louder than the bombs.
We need food. We need safety. We need the world to care.
Please don’t scroll past our pain 💔🙏🏻

Every teenager in town was wandering up and down, see and be seen - quite the weekly social event
moonbaseotago.bsky.social
Used to be every Friday in Dunedin was like that, everything open until 9, of course nothing at all open at the weekends. And over the 2 weeks from Xmas holiday tumbleweeds could have blown down George St

The way media and business have IMMEDIATELY escalated and wrapped around to attack activists smacks of the same tacit coordination that we saw in the US when the far right weaponised Charlie Kirk’s death. This is being led by government ministers & is a massive attack on free speech & protest rights

Aotearoa: there's been at least 21 people in hospital with covid PER WEEK (if I'm reading this correctly)

Please keep up to date with your covid-19 booster vaccinations, if you can

I'm currently recovering from my 2nd bout. Being boostered & masking helped reduce my risk of being hospitalised

Now this, this is an all time low for New Zealand
21 cases in hospital with covid on Sunday night (previous known low is 22)

So my phone company (of 25 years) is firing someone for protesting against genocide! Guess it's time for me to fire them

Winston (and the other NZ First MPs) don't have electoral offices. Winston does have a home office though and wants to be able to hide there

Because I am spoilt for democracy, I have now walked the 130 metres from my office to the nearest local elections ballot box and deposited my voting papers. Honestly, when it was that easy it would have been embarrassing not to vote.
(I have also prompted others in the building I work in)

Remember when social media was weaponised against a nonbinary MP so effectively they had to leave to protect themselves & their child from ongoing online violence & threats? That's political violence, too.

Where were all the calls for change? Where were the posts of "That's not okay"?

Interesting

It's going to come back to bite us big time, we're smearing our families across the planet, caring for parents as they age is going to cost the government even more as we break up our families

Ōtepoti: community solidarity

report from @sonjamitchell.bsky.social who was at Albertson Ave in Kōpūtai Port Chalmers yesterday

image is a screengrab from her facebook post, copy of full text is in alt text (summary in reply)
screengrab from Sonja's post on facebook:

"yesterday's community rally at Alberston
Avenue to stop the impending sale of public housing land at Alberston Avenue. Great turnout despite the terrible weather. We all agree, public housing land is for houses, not sell-offs.

We're asking everyone to please email ASAP, ie TODAY or tomorrow, Housing Minister Chris Bishop and Kainga Ora's regional manager and Chief Executive to ask/ demand that they stop the sale of the public housing land at Alberston Avenue, Port Chalmers, until community consultation has taken place on the full range of options. The sale deadline is tomorrow.

Their email addresses are:
C.bishop@ministers.govt.nz;
kerrie.young@kaingaora.govt.nz;
Brad.ward@kaingaora.govt.nz

If possible, please cc in our local Member of Parliament, Rachel Brooking
