Trying to keep the politics reposts from overwhelming the usual stew of film, food, art, science, books, & cats (w/ occasional French) and mostly failing at the moment.

Support libraries, [⬛️⬛️] Nazis, and eschew AI "art" wherever and whenever you can

shutting down all service (*all* service) to a regional airport for ten days with no advance notice to anyone is pretty nuts
The airspace over El Paso airport, Texas, has been suddenly closed by the FAA for ten days, closing the airport too. The airspace has been defined as "National Defence Airspace". Nobody knows why.

"Due process is not a courtesy extended at the government's convenience. Due process is the condition that makes custody lawful in the first place."

Man, that right there is the whole ball game.
"The authority the political branches possess over immigration does not include the power to seize liberty first and justify confinement later. Due process is not a courtesy extended at the government's convenience. Due process is the condition that makes custody lawful in the first place.”
Another memorable ruling out of West Virginia, where Judge Goodwin — a Clinton appointee — excoriates the treatment of ICE detainees.

"This is not what civil enforcement looks like in a humane system of government under law."

So the feds ARE NOT considering an mRNA vaccine for the flu, which could save countless lives, but ARE backing research into whether horse dewormer can cure cancer, because the right views vaccines as elite and ivermectin as populist.

Cool.

FDA won’t review Moderna application for first mRNA-based flu vaccine
The decision, which shocked company officials, comes as the FDA says it will take a stricter approach to federal vaccine approvals.

ICE is having a devastating impact on our small businesses here in Minneapolis. Businesses are having to close because of the terror ICE is inflicting on our community.

Now is the time to reach out to your federal representative to let them know you don’t support funding DHS.

Neutrality here being campaigning against the invasion of his country by a country that's *banned* from the Olympics
The International Olympic Committee has told a Ukrainian skeleton athlete he cannot wear a helmet that commemorates the lives of Ukrainian athletes lost since Russia’s invasion in competition at the Winter Games, saying it breaks Olympic rules on neutrality.

Updated: ICE and Border Patrol continue to kill people out of the public eye. There's no doubt that the Trump regime is working overtime to hide the full scope of the terror campaign spreading across our country.

Here's our updated list of deaths and injuries.
A Running Count of How Many People ICE Has Killed and Injured - The American Prospect
ICE is not required to report any use-of-force incidents against the public. So The American Prospect created our own running tally.

I wish more journalists were asking this question. I keep getting stuck on how the FBI has closed down investigations into monitoring domestic terror groups and drug/gun/human trafficking in order to assist ICE. The real criminals are having a field day while good people are being thrown into camps.
Why do Trump and MAGA think it's good to spend billions on huge prison camps and divert massive law enforcement resources away from child and drug trafficking to arrest and detain non-criminals who would otherwise be contributing vitally to our economy?

Listen to this. Not a penny more for this. Abolish and prosecute anyone who had anything to do with it.
