This is not new for US sports presenting, though it's more loaded now. I recall other instances where I knew what was going on at the venue and broadcasters ignored widespread public reaction against a well-known figure. Sports have largely become "crafted entertainment" in the USA, not coverage.

Several times today I've thought about the challenge that parents of color face in talking to their children when the leader of our country says or repeats something grossly racist. Every polling place needs volunteers to be poll workers (usually a nonpartisan position) and poll watchers/challengers, which is usually through a political party. Look up the rules in your area and sign up! It’s important and rewarding.
A good thing you can do about this instead of dooming is Google “how to become a poll observer in [your town]”
