"We need to move away from a system predicated on violence in favor of one that centers people's humanity. We need to ensure that every human in the [US] facing a legal process – including deportation – has access to a lawyer ... And we need to divest from the logic that violence makes us safer."

Time to get the good good lawyers and determine whether the contract is valid in the first place.

For example: is it valid if a full Board of Visitors was not in place at the time of signing?

The Trump admin is moving to quickly deport two men who witnessed, they say, ICE guards choke a fellow detainee to death.

The admin moved to deport men right after they spoke the Washington Post.

This is the death that the medical examiner has already ruled likely homicide.

The two men’s eyewitness accounts of the Jan. 3 death of Geraldo Lunas Campos at a Texas detention camp differ from the Department of Homeland Security’s account of the incident.

Hey y’all. So. We are in an urgent and difficult situation. We have a storage locker for our belongings, but we can no longer keep up with the payments and have fallen behind. If we’re unable to cover the full $750 balance, everything in it will be lost in 2 days.

Thousands of people protested in Nuuk, Greenland against Trump's threats to take over their country.

Just over 55,000 people live in Greenland, which means that this was a significant portion of the country's population.

i think about this every time i look at the latest Overdrive or Hoopla or Kanopy invoice. unless prices or demand stabilize, our budget and thus our library will soon be describable as “lessee of digital content with a legacy dead-tree side concern.” 📚
No surprise to librarians, but perhaps surprising to users, demands/prices for ebooks /audiobooks are killing public library budgets. David Szalay's book, Flesh,” costs DCPL:
$28.99 hardcopy
$59.99 ebook
$69.99 audiobook
DCPL owns hardcopy; rents & must repurchase ebook & audio book every 2 yrs.
Libraries can't afford e-books. D.C. lawmakers have a plan.
The demand and price for e-books is up — and it’s busting the D.C. Public Library budget.

Folks saying this is just as bad, I need you to reread about reconstruction. Not holding people accountable is how we get into this position. Removing people who colluded with the administration in an authoritarian takeover of higher ed from their position is the most reasonable thing to do.

We saw this when everyone was excited about Dragon Dictation for transcribing interviews and other audio…until we realized we would have to meticulously re-edit the entire transcript after it was processed.

This is why I laugh when people ask if AI will take over education.

what an amazing idea. make a google form. send the link to people with a resource directory. start doing laundry.
