60 years ago today the BBC screened Nigel Kneale’s second adaptation of 1984. Lost for many years it was returned to the archives a few years ago. And it materialised on YouTube over the summer.

Perhaps not as iconic at the 1954 Cartier version but worth your time!
1984 by George Orwell & Nigel Kneale - starring David Buck and Jane Merrow (1965)

Didn't expect to see mbv at the local enormodome but sometimes a big room demands a big noise. Still feeling nice'n'tender after.

✨ Born today in 1757, William Blake shaped Alasdair Gray’s vision. From Lanark to his art, Gray echoed Blake’s fusion of word and image — even reimagining Infant Joy as his Brain Baby, a symbol of life’s cycle. ✨

Good piece by Huw: “He doesn’t want his subscribers to form lasting, meaningful, mutual relationships with women, because men in those relationships have no need to subscribe to his schemes and scams.”

This is probably the most resonant advert that ran in the original serialisation of The Filth (Morrison/Weston, 2003-2003). "Bring the party home, baby!" - off cum the wigs, the pinstripe is now running down yr legs and into the rug.

‘I have the powers of exorcism,’ Dougal said, ‘that’s all.’

‘What’s that?’

‘The ability to drive devils out of people.’

‘I thought you said you were a devil yourself.’

‘The two states are not incompatible.’

New Blake bollocks up on my substack, in which I consider Blake’s weirdest and gnarliest creation, The Ghost of a Flea

Flea Circus
The Ghost a Flea is a fascinatingly weird creation, odd even by the standards of Blake’s imagination. The intense, tiny painting broods menacingly in the collection of Tate Britain.

You know you're knee deep in your own shite again when your only way to find the images you're looking for online is to reread something you wrote in 2011. In this case, I was after the alternative covers Segura Inc designed for The Filth.
