How about we worry less, as a society, about whether individuals might be cheating to get a disability accommodation or some help buying food, and more about whether extremely wealthy people and corporations are paying their fair share of taxes?

Especially after a mass disabling event! And one that featured the prominent myth of “kids don’t have long-term effects from COVID.” Covid exacerbates other conditions, let alone long COVID itself.
Absolutely this. The idea that 20% of a student body couldn't be disabled is an expression of ableism (not understanding disability) but also an implicitly normative statement -- that 20% of students shouldn't be disabled.
We need to be able to see that the line "accommodations have gone too far" is an expression of the ableist notion that disabled students do not belong in higher ed. Its fundamentally an anxiety about the fact that disabled students get an "advantage" over abled students.

DING DING DING

This is it, wrap up the accommodations discourse, this is all you need to know.
As a teacher I also do not care. Getting extra time on a test hurts nobody. Going undiagnosed and without access to necessary educational supports can actually ruin lives.

People will die, and are currently dying, because RFK was granted one of the most powerful megaphones in the country. Two people who could have thrown barriers in front of his climb decided not to; there's a sex scandal here but it is not the biggest scandal.

By creating an "experiment" without the knowledge of the students, by setting a trap, you have designed your course not to affirm and encourage honesty and hard work (which the majority of the students affirm), but to model the very dishonesty you're supposedly fighting against. 5/8

One of my foundational values as a teacher is trust and respect, what I call radical honesty. I posted a thread on this on 11/17/24. That's where I want to start. If you're "trying an experiment," "setting a trap," or planting a "Trojan horse" into your assignments, you've already lost the game. 3/8

DHS claimed an incident on Oct. 3 showed agents were in danger of being "rammed."

In fact, body cams "suggest[] that the agent drove erratically and brake-checked other motorists in an attempt to force accidents that agents could then use as justifications for deploying force."

Capitalization affects how people read hashtags or how people hear them on screen readers. Use #camelCase or #PascalCase in hashtags instead of lowercase. You could have #DoctorWhoRewatch ("Doctor Who Rewatch") or #doctorwhorewatch ("doctor whore watch.")

It is important to have something familiar when you arrive. Something that feels safe. Like home. A foundation to build a new home. That is so sacred. And a church that will not protect you is not a church you should attend.

Nobody asked, but:

I think the biggest pitfall of sci-fi/fantasy storytelling, especially for worldbuilders, in the infodump.

You're (rightfully) just so proud of all the work you put into creating a cohesive setting that you just wanna PUKE it all over readers/watchers on page one.

Just heard about this huge (49 state) long covid trial using tirzepetide (aka zepbound) one of the newer glp meds. It’s run by researchers at scripps, funded by the eric & wendy schmidt foundation. It looks like it is still enrolling, fully remote participation:

This idea that #metoo was a temporary piece of insanity that happened because America was too woke...

Fuck you. It was a temporary moment in time when people decided, for the first time, that 20 women were finally equal to one man.

This man is singlehandedly bringing back the Scandal era here on BlueSky. Peacock needs to pay him because now I want to watch this.
I always wanted to watch “Succession” specifically because of Sarah Snook but I just couldn’t take it. (No, no, I’m not asking for feedback or persuasive.) Thankfully, I just started #AllHerFault and the look she just gave her husband???????? WHEW!!!!!

Never forget the same people defending pedophilia have spent years trying to convince the public that drag queens and trans people are a threat to children.

It’s all smoke and mirrors to allow the real predators to roam free.

I truly do not believe that most men, including "the good ones" understand how much of our careers get spent on this.
The skillset I have learned up including how to file protection orders, navigate countless procedures that target survivors, how to protect ourselves, friends, and students...
Imagine the things we could do with our time if we didn’t have to do this bsky.app/profile/chan...
I did my job. And then I did a job that never should have been my responsibility afterwards, sending emails and having meetings about how this was allowed to happen in the first place. Other women scholars had to spend their time explaining to Aspen leadership why this was not ok.

Them: “I’m sick of subsidizing their groceries when mine cost so much”

SNAP does not drive up grocery prices.

That would be inflation, tariffs & corporate greed.

For every $1 spent on SNAP there’s a $1.50 going back into the economy.

While you’re blaming the poor, the rich are robbing everyone.

Keep coming back to Summers’ annoyance that this female mentee he’s trying to sleep with “takes her presentation very seriously.” To men like this—to a lot of men—women’s intellectual or professional ambition is an irritating presumption that they condescend to tolerate.
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

For a very particular reason, ALAN DERSHOWITZ, I’m thinking about how the Harvard Law Faculty, which Dersh is a member of, were VERY vocal about how Harvard’s mee Obama-era title IX standards were too stringent and “unfair” to accused perpetrators
To be very clear, Virginia Giuffre was made to say she mistakenly identified Alan Dershowitz as one of the people who sexually abused her. Here is the proof from this week's Epstein files dropped by the House Oversight Committee.

Learning loss didn’t come from “lockdowns” or remote instruction.
It COMES FROM (still happening) illness.
Illness caused by COVID.
Illness that makes kids miss school and teachers miss teaching.
SICK DAYS. And the vascular damage that causes incapacity to think & retain.
This is still happening.
Every time Covid and learning loss hits the news, people act like the only factor is folk staying home and learning online, rather than… Living through a global mass death event.

Alice Wong was one of the most effective people challenging the Whiteness of disability communities and its many flaws, but who believed fiercely in us as a community, in disabled people as oracles.

Alice brought so much to so many of us, it’s hard to measure the kind of gratitude I have for that.
