Pinned
i'm quite proud of my most recent EP. it's always a struggle to get something going, but once i got started recording this felt pretty intuitive.

i don't want to pin any one meaning to it but among other things, the act of recording was meant as a genuine ritual action in praise of the god Fenrir.

the issue here, especially with TCM, is more than half of its programming came from the Turner, and later WB, library. If you remove the network from the library, how is it going to afford to license 100% of its programming?
I just heard from someone at Netflix. TCM is apparently going with the other linear networks to Discovery Global.

Here is the official comment on what WBD assets will be acquired by Netflix:

"We are acquiring the film and television studios, HBO and HBO Max."

also just on a personal note having worked at both WB and Netflix, I have no faith in either company and anything leadership says about a love of movies is a big fat lie. TCM (where I also once worked) leadership does their best to navigate bomb filled waters every day.

In terms of what’s understood to be socially acceptable behavior, normalizing the filming/taking pictures of people in public who are minding their own business (and putting it online) is one of the worst developments of the past 15 years.

A New York subway rider has accused a woman of breaking his Meta smart glasses. She was later hailed as a hero.

call me crazy but if the entire entertainment industry's reaction to the WB acquisition is "oh no" you probably are not, in fact, saving Hollywood

Netflix does not make money and they're going to keep shoving everything into streaming while, again, not making money at all. it's going to destroy so much of film.

“Consumer friendly” is just Ted’s way of saying that he wants people to subscribe to his services and avoid giving theaters a significant piece of the pie. Absolute garbage that he’s trying to spin as a positive for anyone but Netflix.
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos says the streamer has no "opposition" to releasing Warner Bros. movies in theaters, but hints that "windows will evolve to be much more consumer friendly."

The Netflix deal is obviously a fucking nightmare if only because I don’t want to see Hollywood taken over by big tech

today i saw a stage play, an original ghost story told completely straight, that is officially part of the Paranormal Activity franchise. and i thought it was really good! the script was a step above most of those films, well acted, with incredible direction and stage effects.

Working on a thought-tool called "stupid drunk guy in a bar". Works like this: If the take you're responding to is essentially being mumbled by a clearly very stupid drunk guy in the bar you're at, is it worth starting a big public discussion with him?
Today we've decided to center:

- some genre author with fewer than 2k followers who said something insipid about an industry where he has no relevant experience or connection

- a Cato Institute ghoul with the handle "normative" and a substack smugly saying we need to be more serious about eugenics

those people know it pays musicians badly, but will still use it for the convenience and hope it's someone else's responsibility to fix it. "well at least i'm not just *stealing* it." etc, etc. people trying to make a living through their art get angry.

the reason so many of the "memes" telling people about how much spotify sucks are angry and "guilt-tripping" in tone is because it's mostly musicians trying to make these arguments, and most laypeople still won't listen.

i don't have a spotify wrapped or even a tidal whatever-they-call-it-over-there but i do have a list, hand-assembled, of my favorite albums of this year.
