got a PR email from a "Christmas Time Travel Expert" and it's just tips for navigating busy airports and some bad proofreading but for a second there I got really excited

The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

yeah in this way it really is the last Star Wars movie, not just in terms of hype but in a general sense of wonder, mystery, and potential
I think you could make an argument, by the way, that the release of The Last Jedi was the last time (at least prior to the release of Andor S2, at least) when the popular mood about a Star Wars release was humming, palpable excitement
What's grimly funny about this is that, in a lot of ways, these fashy/outrage-grift campaigns against The Last Jedi were killing the golden egg. On top of clearly panicking Disney, they poisoned the (never totally sane) online mood about Star Wars in ways that hurt a lot of subsequent projects

Hilo by Judd Winick (!) is also an instant fave, apparently, although it's a little scary for three and a half.
if you need a gift for a kid this season, my 3-year-old is suddenly obsessed with the Barb the Last Berzerker comics by Dan Abdo and Jason Patterson ("Dan & Jason")

One of the many reasons AI can't produce good writing is it can't hate its own writing. It can't think to itself "Maybe I'm illiterate" during the writing process. And that's essential

My personal theory as to why Clair Obscur hit so big is that, in part, the JRPG space has grown increasingly backwards-looking, which shuts out anyone who isn't nostalgic for 16/32-bit games. People like these types of games! But you have to meet 'em where they are.

I think if Nintendo had dropped the "4" from the title and positioned this as a soft reboot of the Prime series instead of a direct sequel people would've been a little more forgiving. (I like it so far! I'm not very far in.)

Games are new enough that they’re defined by the vessel - computers - and not what they actually are

If we did this for stages then plays, award shows, debates, spelling bees, ballet, etc would all be called “stagies”
Games are such a funny medium to generalize about because like, games is an absurdly broad umbrella that we've decided is one medium even though you can easily come up with two examples of a "video game" that are more unlike each other than any two movies or novels

My games critic hot take (and it is a hot take) is that games absolutely can be both art and toys. The idea of "play" is what makes games so special compared to other mediums.

The job of the critic (and players in general, although that's a tough bar to clear) is to balance these two things.
