The President of the United States has absolutely no power over the times, places, and manner of how we conduct our elections. That's not a theory, an argument, or a position. It's a fact, it's been a fact for almost 250 years since the founding of our country, and it is the only fact that matters.
Article I of the U.S. Constitution: “The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of chusing Senators.”

A reminder that election security - which the current administration says is as much as a keystone national priority as immigration enforcement - received only $15 million last year from Congress, the EAC budget was cut by 38%, and DHS/DOJ eliminated every actual election security program we had.

The Department of Homeland Security pushed out the revamped tool while it was still adding data. That led to widespread misidentification, particularly for citizens born outside the U.S.

This affidavit was much weaker than I suspected. No allegations of intent. No allegations of election theft. No allegations of foreign interference. No allegations that the statute of limitations doesn't apply.

At worst, it alleges human error, during a pandemic, that didn't affect the outcome.
BREAKING: The supporting affidavit for the warrant to search Fulton County election records has been unsealed.

“If you think about it, a state is an agent for the federal government in elections,” President Trump said. “I don’t know why the federal government doesn’t do them anyway.”

Why? It's in Article I of the U.S. Constitution. The same Constitution every official swears an oath to uphold. That's why.

Former Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer: “Clearly the federal government is going to do things that it’s never done before. The FBI going in and taking materials from an election that happened over five years ago is unprecedented, so maybe we’re destined for additional unprecedented actions."
Those who faced threats and pressure say the president’s legal authority may be limited, but the guardrails that once kept him in check aren’t as strong as they used to be.
