Gary -> LA -> NY
Doing a bit of language learning. I have to admit one frustrating situation as I’m conversing with folks is explaining why my family ain’t from anywhere but the US. Whatever origin exists before here is clearly complicated. I’m SO confused by their shock and awe.

Literally just got back last night from a family reunion in Mississippi. Yup- I grew up Gary Indiana because my grandparents left Chicago for better work after bailing on D’Lo, MS.

Wild the nearby town is my family last name. Wild that the back roads are my great-grandparents name.
17 year old me thought my freshman year AFAM history professor was a wizard when he asked where I was from (Chicago) and proceeded to correctly identified where my people came FROM (Mississippi).
I will never go “back to school”

But if i were to commit myself to research something… it would be this

It’s the only thing I’m interested in

Ok but for real. Can someone hire me to do what I’m good at?

This is wild. These are wild times.

Gonna go eat some Lime Fritos.

A tale of two movies:

Similar deal structures. Similar budgets.

One made $45M from 3300 screens, post pandemic, and won the weekend.

The other made $41M from 3600 screens pre-pandemic, and placed second.

And yet this is the coverage.

Healthy reminder that I write in all genres and mediums. No pigeonholing necessary.
Welp, I'm gonna lose my TAG insurance because there's been no work for over a year. If anyone wants to hire me to write on their shows, let a boy know.

It is always a delight when the TMNT (x3) gets on the bus or train. BOY did the last film capture NYC kids because I legit just said “OK Michelangelo” in all seriousness.

Captiain’s Log #6404. It has been over 6,000 days of being harangued by a cat named Willis for hours on end. It started as a joke. “Whatchu talking ‘bout?” It has now been 18 years and I still have no idea. He is a healthy cat who yells (not meows) non stop.

I am tired y’all.

How can we convince Workday to adopt a single login/password account for applicants? I have so many logins!! For the same site. It doesn’t help to have a PW manager because it’s the same site. Daily applications has made this a WILD experience.

It’s still hard to believe the simple fact that this is all self-imposed. Everything that’s happening right now wasn’t the result of some foreign adversary destroying the country. We did this all to ourselves by electing the dumbest motherfucker to ever rule a nation.

I told myself I wasn’t going to cry. But with this one it’s legit impossible. Like. 😭😭😭😭😭
#WhenLifeGivesYouTangerines was officially Netflix’s most popular non-English series as of Friday.

The kdrama is making waves globally, a feat that carries unique significance compared to other global korean hits such as #SquidGame and #TheGlory.

If you’re staffing, hire everyone who worked on Moon Girl the past 4 years. You will not regret having them on your team. This show was firing all cylinder, A++ on every department.

The thing is. Kdramas don’t have this problem. They are so addictive and it’s fine for them to just be 16 or so episodes of 1 season and you feel like you got deep investment. The fans discuss rank rewatch them obsessively. We make forgettable plain scoops of popcorn.
Remember when we used to have TV shows with premises that could be at least 100 episodes? No shows have any gas in the tank anymore and it leads to audiences not investing in characters and it's really depressing.

In animation we hear "We want the next Bluey". The cost of doing business used to be making a hundred shows to get a Spongebob. All the other shows? A lot will still make money, and the talent who worked on them could give you the next Bluey.
This makes me so angry - because this translates to "I too would like to make a lot of money"

But let's be real. You would not have published Balatro.

You want a lightning strike- fund 20 games. Fund 30 games. Fund so many damn games that maybe you find the right field to be struck by lightning.
Publisher bizdev people at events like GDC and Dice trying to sign "the next balatro" should realize that, statistically, the developer of "the next Balatro" you need to be talking to isn't at GDC or Dice talking to bizdev guys seeking 2m+ in funding

I think this is the issue for entertainment right now in general. Creators and folks making it happen on the ground level keep saying it over and over and over. But still — sigh.
But you aren't going to fund these games. You aren't going to take a chance on something that likely, you can't even tell if it has it. This isn't a diss to you- You likely don't even have the expertise to see what really makes something tick.

Which means you have to take risks to make up for it.

I am the only person I know who is cussed out daily (hourly) by their cat. LOUDLY. Dramatically. Emotionally. This is an abuse. I am legit hiding from him right now.

The vet says he just has a lot to say. 😩 18! Years. Lots and lots of serious feline words. 😐
