usually goes by nog. bobcat, probably. he/him. often skulking around a stand of fir trees. may be rapidly approaching. trains, not kings. opinions do not represent my employers past or present, but may represent lunch.
not a huge fan of "yankee" for this reason, but am ok with "ヤンキー" because it's more inclusive
I don’t like being referred to as a Yankee but I’ve realized this is not at all because I’m Southern, but because I specifically resent being associated with traditional New England Protestant culture and its flavorless foods
All people from the U.S. are Yankees. I say this as a person born and raised in The South because pissing off That Specific Kind of Southerner is a moral good.

the only one i quibble on at all is the 100% remote bit, and that only because i personally happen to be on an end of the industries where occasional site visits are physically necessary.
The people to solve the job search slop problem from either/both ends is going to win at ATS/recruiting
Before anyone tries to negotiate with these criteria, you have to understand that many of my friends are job-hunting right now and I've been trying to help, but there's so much bullshit (AI especially) that it's nauseating.
I'm tempted to make a tech-related job board, with the following criteria:

- No AI
- No blockchain
- Every job must allow 100% remote as an option
- Compensation must be fully transparent

Unfortunately, I feel like it would, on most days, be empty. Too many tech companies are up to some bullshit.

currently thinking silversun pickups works because the drums are D&B style but everything else is hard indie rock and that's not a super common combination. but this lets the rhythm section sit forward in the mix for a really punchy feel

for me, steely dan listening depression is usually deeper than silver jews/purple mountains/david berman listening depression, which in turn is deeper than steve albini/songs: ohia/magnolia electric co listening depression

and yet people ask if I'm ok if i mention listening to songs: ohia, not aja

this is pretty solid spiritual advice tbh

“Be prudent, be wise, be careful that your use of AI does not limit your true human growth. Use it in such a way that if it disappeared tomorrow, you would still know how to think, how to create, how to act on your own, how to form authentic friendships.”
Pope Leo XIV told students not to use artificial intelligence for homework, saying that AI ‘won’t stand in authentic wonder before the beauty of God’s creation.’

damn, the jamaican bobsled team is on fire this year, you gotta respect the drive
In case you missed it, Jamaica has won a gold medal in bobsled!

Shane Pitter and his 4-man team slid to gold in the second North American Cup race in Whistler in Pitter's 6th 4-man race as a pilot, beating out a pretty experienced field in the process.

the demand was for a senator who checks his messages and has office hours that are actually kept, and as far as i can tell our space senator has generally kept to this
I think people should realize here that Mark Kelly is a very savvy politician who doesn't really move from where his constituents are and is notoriously careful because he's a democrat from Arizona.

The fact that he's doing this isn't just presidential ambition, it means his voters want it.
Mark Kelly: "My wife, Gabby Giffords, meeting with her constituents, shot in the head. Six people killed around her, a horrific thing. She spent six months in the hospital. We know what political violence is and we know what causes it too, The statements that Donald Trump made incites others."

from what i understand open access started to grow *because* closed access journals were doing this, as a protest of elsevier et. al. raising publishing costs for writers while simultaneously raising access costs for schools
apropos of this shit, one of my hobbyhorses - that i recognize i am in the minority on - is that open-access publishing is a fucking scourge on academic integrity. closed access journals used to make significant effort to determine "is this a quality paper", now anyone can print if they pay the fee
