All my recent books went from hardcover to trade paperback and almost all of my backlist in mass market has now migrated to trade. The role of mass market paperbacks is now handled almost entirely by ebooks. I'm okay with this but it is the end of an era.

Last Call for Mass Market Paperbacks
After years of steady sales declines, the format will largely disappear next year.

Same.
I have read a ridiculous number of books this year and I’m honestly not even sure how, but I think it’s mostly a result of needing to hide from everything.

Rhode Island was home for 9 years. I went to school in Providence. I taught there. Including at RISD, lucky enough to work with Brown faculty and students. I am heartbroken for this amazing city and community.

There was an incident on my campus when I was undergrad involving a sparkly deer art installation. Every Christmas, the glittered reindeer decorations take me right back.

For one of my reading challenges next year, I need to read a book from an unknown part of history.
The problem is I’m a historian. So I don’t really know what’s considered unknown.

Yup. 15 year high school reunion. Day after Christmas. Just some of us, some teachers, and some cases of beer in the meeting hall. Small school. Very small class. So we didn’t need anything formal. It was cool to just hang.
In every movie or tv show where there’s a high school reunion, the reunion happens AT the school. It’s elaborately decorated, they can walk all over the school.
I’ve never heard of a real reunion at a school. Mine were at hotels or just bars.
Did you ever have a reunion at your high school?

Me: So graceful, so majestic

Fiasco: *hits the window full force, topples off the cat tree onto the floor like a sack of potatoes*

Many of my closest friends are from a virtual book club that regularly reads books on cults (shoutout to The Morbidly Curious Book Club). Most of us have never met in person but they’re the people I go to when I need support, to share fun shit, and judge people.
After brainstorming this, I considered starting a book club but then I dreamed a little bigger, and I might just start a cult
The cool thing about the Midwest (though I suspect it’s this way everywhere) is that, if you don’t have a pre-set friend group from your high school and college years, you will probably have no real life friends

All the freaking time. If I didn’t keep a list it would be so many duplicates.
I have reached the point in my obsessive book-buying journey that I'm looking through sales on Kobo and finding myself going "That one looks interesting...oh, I have that one already, I just have so many books I haven't read it yet. Okay, how about this...oh, I have this one too. And this one. Hmm."

My hazards research gets awkward when I’m researching wildfires because I have a severe severe phobia of fires. Even afraid of smoke detectors.
Despite this, I am learning a lot from Megafire by Michael Kodas.

Tis the season for holiday teas. And therefore this helpful warning is necessary. Many of these holiday flavors have barley in them. If you have to be gluten free, check the ingredients. Many a celiac has been taken down by a holiday tea.
