If this year was about getting off US tech, 2026 is the year to reassess the digital revolution — what works, what doesn’t; what to keep, and what to reject.

I’ve only just started to consider what needs to change about how I use digital technology, but I’m excited to learn more next year.
We need to reassess our relationship to digital tech
Getting off US tech led me to a wider questioning of digital convenience

The BBC is really showing its arse with its editorial guidelines recommending the use of a pseudoscientific dogwhistle in reporting that mentions trans people.

It's important that they're not allowed to continue using fake-scientific insults in peace.

New piece:

‘Biological male’ is a pseudoscientific dogwhistle
The BBC should be better than this.

The strategic road network is managed by a charity and relies on the goodwill of land owners for access. Some motorways will be muddy and flooded each winter.

Also

The strategic road network stops randomly at council boundaries and investment is where councils are willing.

What are the specific pain points that prevent you from switching to Linux or have forced you back to Windows? Trying to collect as many as possible. Specific productivity software, etc.
Living with Windows has always been a calculus of how useful it is professionally vs. the amount of unbearable shit you gotta disable with a script and I think we reached a tipping point where it’s majority unbearable shit.

Glasgow has 15 subway stations. Just look at the land use around these two! It's shocking.

Should be dense housing and commerce, or dense employment. Instead we have a huge motorway junction and like a car dealership and some warehouses that could just as happily be on the outskirts.

By comparison, here's Houten, a commuter town on the edge of Utrecht. Similar profile.

• 3 to 4 storey housing on the doorstep of the rail station
• Pedestrianised street perpendicular to the station, supporting heavy footfall for...
• Mixed use development around the station

literally fuck anyone who doesn’t see at this point that it’s an organized nationwide effort to make trans people unemployable.

every trans person they push out of public life is a win for them & a whole hell of a lot of cis people need to start stepping up and saying fuck off to freaks like this.

Doesn’t feel good that the head of BBC News Content is instructing reporters to refer to trans people with slurs. If this leak is real it raises questions about who made this decision, who was consulted, and why the BBC chose to ignore its own editorial guidelines on slurs and offensive language
EXCLUSIVE
The BBC has circulated leaked guidance telling journalists to describe trans women as “biological males”.

Levy: Do we simply resolve the inherent problems created by having GICs as a separate thing from main healthcare and just do informed consent? No! A hundred thousand more GICs! A GIC on every street corner! Running like factories their chimney stacks painting the sky! Efficiency!
How do we solve these mega waiting lists for the gender clinics???

Just dont do the gender clinics and just have GPs prescribe hormones and refer for surgeries

Gender clinics exist to soothe scared cis people not to help trans people transition

The reason they're so focused on trans teens is that people who transition younger typically blend into society better. To the extent that they're willing to tolerate our existence in society at all, they'd rather we be easily identified by our appearance/voices/etc.
Cis people really have no idea how it feels to watch a regime hold a press conference to admit, on camera, the pogrom against trans people they've been waging for 11 months is not only real, but they're going to double down on genocide and try to wipe out all the children first.

Our health secretary is so willfully ignorant about health in ways that are going to kill people.
Also pissed off at Steeting going off on "biological sex is immutable for screening and healthcare" in parliament, if ignoring that we very much should be treated according to our current anatomy and hormones, and that treating us as our birth assigned sex will cause serious healthcare failures.

The Basque Government/Biscay provincial government have just agreed to finance the FIFTH new Bilbao metro line covering a population of roughly that of Leeds and Bradford. Every station and platform is fully accessible and the current maximum fare is 0.76€ per journey.
Remember when HS2 to Leeds was cancelled by the NIC's shitty maths and fundamental lack of expertise, and Leeds was thrown the bone of "you'll get trams" and I said those would never be delivered?

Yeah, as I was saying...
