Today's announcement is the opposite of what it says it is. It's the formal cancellation of the high speed line across the Pennines.

What's left - additional TRU scope - is a good idea but should be delivered as a business as usual enhancement in 2027, not some far off fanfaron.

Every once in a while, a celebrity, like Chris O' Dowd or Richard Ayoade or Jimmy Carr* will inch their heads above the parapet and support Graham Linehan.

Why isn't it the job of a journalist to go back to those people and ask them to comment on his supporting ICE shooting a woman in the head?
Graham Linehan claims he detonated his career, his family, his entire life, to protect women. He often asks people to "apologise to their daughters" if they disagree with him on trans rights.

And yet, when someone's daughter is executed by ICE, he shares Right-Wing propaganda that she deserved it.

Protest against complicity in genocide in Keir Starmer's and Labour's UK now carries an extra-judicial death sentence. All the Palestine Action prisoners are asking is for a judicial process worthy of a normal democracy. This will never be forgiven or forgotten.

watching Helen Lewis claim she's got the key to understanding American politics is like watching a cat chasing a laser pointer, except the cat is somehow claiming it's figured out how to solve world hunger. also the cat is transphobic and will try to get you fired if you point this out

No one is asking Wes Streeting to be a commentator.

Asking him to be a government minister when the whole world can see Trump breaking international law whilst threatening Greenland next, and the Cabinet (with Nigel Farage) seems perfectly fine with it.
Wes Streeting is asked if Trump has broken international law when it comes to Venezuela. Streeting says he's got nothing to add and he's not here to be a commentator.

I mean, which idiot thinks politicians should answer questions when they're being interviewed in a TV studio!

A reminder: it doesn't have to be this way.

Mexico has a hell of a lot more to lose than Europe by angering Trump. Yet this is the response of its president just now.

This isn't a global phenomenon. Why have Europeans proven to be so uniquely cowardly over the past year?

Fighting fossil fuel reliance is directly taking the fight to the US. The rest of the world should see it as an imperative for its immediate survival from a belligerent rogue state as well as from climate collapse.
Venezuela has the world’s largest oil reserves — and that’s no coincidence.

This is naked U.S. imperialism: an illegal assault on Caracas aimed at overthrowing a sovereign government and plundering its resources.

Starmer’s Labour government must condemn this unequivocally.

I have spoken with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and our Ambassador in Caracas. The EU is closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela.
