Yes but isn’t his point that in countries with more of a social safety net 35K is doable?
November 24, 2025 at 10:10 PM
So he’s wrong/lying when he said he looked and saw that the 35K for family of 4 number was derived from a 1963 number and not updated since?
November 24, 2025 at 10:10 PM
Sure if you’re measuring poverty as under 35K for a family of 4. But the whole point of the article is that poverty should be at 135K for that same family, in which case, yeah most of the US is. Obvi under current measures of povy that’s not true but that’s the point of the article: the ruler is off

Yes, would agree it was. Did it not start to slowly backslide when the tax code changed and the wealthy could get crazy rich, leaving the rest behind? Behind in terms of losing safety net (social services, pensions), with rent and insurance going up astronomically while wages and tax breaks don’t?
November 24, 2025 at 9:29 PM
But isn’t that the whole point of the article? That we need to come to terms with how most of the US population is below the poverty line, and a huge number of families are at starvation level (under $35K)
November 24, 2025 at 8:02 PM
Not anywhere for the most part. That seems to be what the article is saying. Yes, the majority of the population makes much less than that. And all of those people are also living below a more accurate poverty line. It’s why the middle and lower class are angry as hell right now

Dan you’d agree for the most part with Michael Green’s analysis yes? Because it sounds like you know what you’re talking about as well

@whstancil.bsky.social this is the poverty level @ 100K -140K income
November 24, 2025 at 4:43 PM

I just wondered if it was a conference about neurodiversity and kleptomania, which has got to be a thing (because no one is immune to compulsions), and I was interested!

Sadly, not true. They need to be impeached and removed one by one.
