Look how these two #trees respect each other’s living space. Their shapes trace each other, barely touching.

In spring and summer neither shades the other, so they both can get enough sunlight and be nourished.

Maybe they’re mother and child?

If trees can care for each other, so can we.

A while back, I read this quiet but fierce meditation on war, how it shows up in art, and on what it does to those who wage it and those who are on the receiving end.

And I still think about it.

Now feels like the right time to recommend it as an essential read.

Check out #45! 😭😭😭 My little kid nerdy heart loves this because I grew up looking forward to this magazine included with the Sunday paper every week. I am so honored to see my book on this list in a magazine that means so much to me. Thank you, PARADE Magazine!

A little winter magic. It’s gray and rainy down in the valleys. But up here, the fresh snow has turned everything into a postcard and hushed all the sounds except branches cracking under its weight or an occasional chirp of a bird.

A day not spent on screens is a day worth living.

An old log - a tree that died - still full of life, as it became a host to a micro forest of mosses and lichens, all teeming with life, even on this mild winter day.

Nature is so miraculous, but we often walk past these little miracles completely oblivious.

New UCC paper shows how low beef and sheep systems are for net digestible protein per hectare: they produce protein for 2–3 people per ha, versus ~23 for milk and ~40 for legumes. That’s ~15× more digestible protein per hectare from legumes than beef.

I sneaked out for a short walk in between meetings today, to clear my head and to bask in the precious winter sun.

I am ashamed to admit I did not really notice #gulls before I picked up my camera. They have a bad reputation, but they are such tough, playful, and elegant creatures.

Their life is constant battle against the elements. Wind, water, cities encroaching on their habitat.

And yet, they soar.

First day back to work and already spent lunch going through emails instead of a little photo walk in the neighborhood. I love my work, but I also know that making time for a proper break on a busy day makes me more productive and motivated in the long run.

Tomorrow better. Photo from 2 weeks ago.
