Hi everyone! My name's Olivia, and I'm a software engineer by trade who likes to play video games and board games, write about the former, and sometimes paint minis for the latter. Happy to be here! 😊

I'm getting so sick of this pattern in the board game space of creators not hiring consultants and ignoring criticism because, "It's just a game!" or w/e. Even more baffling when it changes partway through a series. Sabika? Credits an Arabist/art history prof. Men-Nefer (the follow-up)? Nothing.

It's getting some push back on its Kickstarter comments by actual Irish people - not all of whom I agree with, but the general sentiment of "could you have checked in with an Irish historian first" rings incredibly true.

Sadly, there are also weirdo kneejerk defenders with their heads deep in sand

I'm not sure which possibility would be more frustrating to me:
1. Microsoft prevents Machine Games from using a similar ad campaign for fear of pissing off real Nazis or w/e.
2. MS lets MG use a similar campaign just to wallpaper over MS' continued support for and complicity in genocide.

I'm biased because I'm a writer and therefore value words and their effective use, but one of the more subtle issues I'm starting to see with the proliferation of AI chatbots is an inability (or unwillingness) for people to take the time to properly articulate questions and perform research.
