Protecting the coast is hard. Rebranding it as a giant bunker is easy.

Also saw an suv just about right hook a cyclist at the Cogswell/Purdys lane intersection. Yelled, “careful!” As I was scared I was about to see someone get smoked. Car stopped last minute. Cyclist said something to me as he passed but now I’m nervous he thinks I was yelling angrily at him 😭

Dahlia St just before Maple appears partially closed due to construction. Last week they had left a strip for bikes to pass through- that looks gone. I did hop on the sidewalk to bypass but was treated to a v loud jackhammer and folks standing on the sidewalk so, proceed with caution

"These heavier vehicles typically produce more emissions, cause greater wear and tear on roads, and critically pose a significantly higher risk in the event of a road traffic collision."
Good to see acknowledgement of the extra costs of SUVs to society.

Cardiff set to impose SUV parking premium after council approval
Owners of large cars such as SUVs would be charged more to encourage switching to smaller vehicles.

Anybody else on the bridge bikeway today notice a good chunk of brown bottle glass on the Dartmouth side?? Almost certain that’s what it was but would like to be certain, gonna email bridge anyway. It was a decent distance before the first tower

HRM data showing both pedestrian and cyclist crashes are up in the first six months of 2025 vs first six months of 2024, cyclist/micro-mobility crashes up by nearly one quarter.
A direct outcome of caution and delay over crucial infra, at heavy cost to users

@hfxgov.bsky.social literally out here trying to kill cyclists
#BikeHfx, use extreme caution at Cogswell & Barrington. I discovered this evening while proceeding eastbound on the bidirectional bike lane that the EB green for cars is combined with a right signal SB from Barrington onto Cogswell, putting you in immediate conflict with drivers.

Also so happy the sidewalk shed is being removed as we have had to deal with that awful, dangerous blind turn all summer
The Macdonald Bridge is closed this weekend (this includes the Bike and Pedestrian Lanes)
Here's the note for folks using Active Transit, and would usually take the Macdonald:

Haven’t been able to detour around the awful ramp in the Hollis St bike lane this week cause it’s been so busy I haven’t felt comfortable. It’s so jarring. Here’s some comments from people who feel the same- plan on following up on my ticket today

Emailed 311 about lots of glass at the start of the Hollis St bike lane- person got back to me right away, said she called the service truck and put in a ticket to do the entire stretch of the bike lane. S/O to Shirley!!

More glass cleaning on my way home 🙄 also ever since I was hit again last week I am having such a hard time not having any reaction to asshole/unaware drivers… and I worked really hard to tamp that down because it can really impact my mood, get even more intense/aggressive, and ruin my ride…

also, decided I think I will be risking myself by jumping into the Hollis St traffic to avoid the god awful construction ramp in the bike lane. It’s so painful and jarring especially atm when I have some brutal shoulder/neck pain. Also I wonder how slippy the rain made it

Also, been seeing so many drivers on their phone. One was blocking the roundabout for a good amount of time so I yelled loud enough for him to hear me to get off his phone, and I will continue to shame people. Absolutely zero enforcement happening.

Took 5 mins from my commute to pick up/kick glass to the side of the Barrington Greenway MUP. I emailed 311 about Tuesday and still nothing. I’m tired of picking my bike up to carry it over this section. I’m gonna be looking for an extendable broom/dustpan to attach to my bike.

The construction ramp in the Hollis St bike lane is pretty gnarly. Very uncomfortable, probably damaging for some tires, too. I sent a complaint to 311 today.

Hi folks, be safe riding. Especially in busy spots like Lower and Upper Water- even where there are bike lanes, near those parking lots slow down and just be ready for idiots to pull in towards you.

Out for a stroll this evening, I saw someone I know with what seemed to be a new e-scooter. Talked to them and they got one to replace their Halifax car commute downtown and back!!!!
Said they got tired of spending 30 mins in the car while watching people on bikes and scooters cruising by. 1/2

Welp, it happened again. Hit by a driver in the bike lane/MUP in front of Purdys Wharf. I’m absolutely fine, so is my bike. Just mad.

Construction closing bike lane near indoor parking on Hollis St
Proceed with caution pulling into traffic!!! Signal, make sure it’s safe (even if you have to stop), take the lane before you are able to pull back in.
