It’s funny because people always imply that Dems know through personal experience what lines will get people excited, which implies that Chuck Schumer has earned something other than tepid applause in two decades.
Dems' statements are worse than your parody, because they usually imply that Trump does in fact care about economic issues and is capable of fixing them and just happens to be distracted at the moment.

Over four decades, the NRA et al softened the ground for the current authoritarian takeover. My hope is that their silence in the face of the government tyranny they screamed about for all those years will bankrupt them in the eyes of the public forever.
I want to point out that the NRA and other anti-government groups had been screaming about the threat of "obey or die" for decades. Yet now that we're here, crickets. That's because they were softening the ground for the present moment.

I know this is a joke, but, like all good humor,it does reveal to a deeper truth that the US relationship with allies and partners is permanently diminished. It’s not Trump they no longer trust (he’ll eventually go) but the US electorate.

In the decade-and-a-half since Jobs death, it’s a bummer to see Apple go from bring driven by product and principle to being driven by profit. The Tim Cook era has been great for shareholders, less great for customers.

It's pretty clear at this point that nothing Trump does--no crime, no insult, no desecration, no dehumanization (even of reporters!)--can break his hold over the media for one reason: he gives them access. He wants a platform for his insane rants, and they desperately want to be that platform.
