After voting to kick 15 million Americans off of their health insurance in Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, Republicans have now shut down the government because they refuse to extend lifesaving ACA tax credits that millions rely on.

Trump must stop putting billionaires over babies and extend the tax cuts.

To stand in solidarity with our government workers, I requested my Congressional salary be withheld for the duration of this shutdown. I plan on donating my pay to nonprofits within the 6th District that are addressing food insecurity for families impacted by cuts to SNAP and other federal programs.

Only one political party is actually expressing any empathy and concern on the way this shutdown is immediately impacting tens of millions of patients nationwide.

The tragic irony is most of these patients live in states that support the current party in power. That party remains silent.

Nothing remotely resembling an insurrection is happening anywhere in the country. Any violence associated with protest has been isolated, mild, and, in nearly every case, instigated by federal law enforcement. If we let Trump get away with calling dissent an insurrection, our republic is over.
