With @elementalamber.bsky.social’s current health flare issue she has been having to stay at our parents because they don’t have stairs & because walking both dogs is too much for me atm. But she was back last night and it’s been so awesome. I love my awesome sister!

What i think compounds this even further is that people who hold on to this sort of fear are often terminally incurious. Whether it's fear of persecution by their own or the terror of having to reevaluate the rest of their world view, they won't even try a free sample.
That final sentence is a civilization killer. Resistance to women's suffrage, the civil rights movement, Irish and Indian independence, and so on is predicated on a baseless fear that the moment "they" attain political and economic power, "they" will treat "us" as shittily as "we" treated "them".
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

my stepdad was staunchly left wing, and the thing he said that stuck with me the most was that a country should be prouder of its welfare system than any other - it's a measure of how they protect and care for every citizen, a benchmark on how they treat the most vulnerable.
