My latest for @nowthenmag.bsky.social:
Who Remembers Attention Spans?

Half of people in the UK think their attention span has shrunk. With "doomscrolling" becoming an increasing concern for policymakers, I ask: but is this even real though?

Who Remembers Attention Spans?
Why can't we focus on anything these days? Sean Morley takes a brief interlude from checking the latest death tolls to investigate our belief in the shrinking attention span.

Our highest ever polling with Lucid Talk!

This is a big step forward. While it may be just a snapshot, it’s clear our message is resonating with more and more people. Momentum is building because people know there’s a better way.

Sorry I don't mean to be so strident but I really worry about people getting hybrids which only serve to help car companies. A small efficient petrol until you can man an EV work is probably better.
Don't get a hybrid. Worst of both worlds and probably more environmentally damaging than a petrol. They are economically and environmentally worse than a petrol car. Worth checking to see if there are chargers near where you live or work. You wouldn't need to charge that often probably
Definitely an EV. More reliable, less maintenance and cheaper to run.
For that price you can get a Hyundai Kona electric, possibly a VW id.3 or an MG4. These are all good and all have good ranges. Id3 may annoy with controls so worth test drive. You could get a 2023 Renault Zoe also for 11k.9

Alliance promised change but delivered excuses. While they talk about “balance”, Lough Neagh is choking, hate crime laws gather dust, public transport collapses and inequality grows. The Greens don’t sit on the fence - we fight for people and planet, not political convenience.

Labour are losing vote share to the greens. Time to drop green manifesto pledges!
Energy prices are too high. Do you:
A. Decouple electricity prices from the gas wholesale price keeping them high
B. Reduce efforts to switch to the cheapest forms of energy (renewables)

Trick question! Of course if you are this labour government the answer is whatever fossil fuel lobbyists want!

Belfast city centre is at a crossroads.

Will community need beat developer greed? We say yes. Time for overdose prevention, safer streets, and real public transport - not empty promises or empty buildings. A greener, fairer Belfast starts now. #BelfastCityCentre #GreenPartyNI

There is no room for racism — not in Kilcooley, not in Bangor, not anywhere.

Last nights attack in Ganaway Walk was a cowardly act of hate, and it has no place in our community. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home and to be treated with respect and dignity.

Labour members up and down the country are leaving that burning wreck of a party and joining the Greens.

Swindon is proof of that and we extend a warm welcome to Cllrs Tom Butcher, Repi Begum and Ian Edwards.

We’re building a new left.
Help us do it.
Their study looks at protein conversion. No mention of climate change or even soil degradation. If protein conversion and low land use is your main concern then precision fermentation would be at the top.
But the land use is enormous and the methane expulsion huge. It's Ireland's biggest greenhouse gas contribution and has meant the historic deforestation hasn't been reversed this makes us unprepared for the flooding as a result of climate change.

Mosquito-borne diseases kill more than one million people and infect up to 700 million each year. Global heating is enabling the world’s deadliest creature to expand its geographical range to new regions.

I'm just a lowly art historian, but in moments like these I always think back to one early sign of Trump's wanton, pointless destructiveness: his demolition of the priceless & irreplaceable Art Deco relief sculptures on facade of the Bonwit Teller building, which he tore down to build Trump Tower
