A few days ago, I stood in the graveyard of an 1100 year old church, getting damper and damper in the drizzling rain.

A woman walked into the graveyard, waved, said hello, and, as we had previously arranged, handed me a paper bag full of human bones.

The life of a churchwarden is a strange one...

‘It’s the underground Met Gala of concrete murderzone design’: welcome to the Quake Brutalist Game Jam
Quake Brutalist Jam began as a celebration of old-fashioned shooter level design, but its latest version is one step away from being a game in its own right

TIL you can "get gnomed" when using Linux.

A combination of installed packages can cause GNOME desktop to spontaneously appear on your computer.

There's even a whole subreddit dedicated to it.

And these tubes here, designed to set Matthew Hopkins running to the nearest haberdashery, are the peculiar abuse of physics known as the Flettner rotor.

Happy 21st to a lovely show! HA it probably has a lot to answer for, really introduced me to partial transformation as a fun, useful trope, and had a lot of really fun creatures.

the classic example here is the Toyota "unintended acceleration" lawsuits, where NASA and NHTSA concluded not that the code was responsible, but that the code was so convoluted that it couldn't be ruled out. thousands of global variables. unstructured C programming. pure spaghetti.

yeah I wouldn't suggest vibecoding the firmware for your safety-critical life support systems. but lemme tell you, you're probably not going to want to look at a lot of the code that *actual humans* write for those things either.

If your engineering culture is such that changes can be merged that no one is accountable for, then you have way bigger problems than whether PRs are being generated using LLMs
Actual Engineering Manager here.

Everyone talks about Vibe Coding, but I don't hear a lot about Vibe Debugging. My nightmare is that something burps out a mess of code and *no one is responsible for it*. If one of my people writes it... well they get to fix it. If no one writes it.......
