Americans want to watch charismatic people solve moderately difficult problems on a weekly basis. That’s it. And a group of fomo execs and techbros who don’t watch TV drove one of the most profitable industries in the US off a cliff rather than accept that.
Look what happenes when a TV show releases every year, with more than 8 episodes a season.
I was probably being too generous and willing to allow for the possibility Planter could explain himself and demonstrate some depth and capacity to learn. This weak bullshit from his defenders has been remarkably successful at talking me out of being forgiving.
Unbecoming is so right. Also, if the goal is to aid the candidate, letting him pretend this is his critics' fault isn't going to do it.

Trying to imagine how Obama/Rev. Wright (which doesn't compare to this) would've played if his supporters said it was the voters' job to just get over it.
Pretty sure it's "I'm going to say some pseudo profound bs to pretend I'm not an empty person who just wants to fawn over mah big strong army man"

If the guy wants to make a case and let the voters decide if he's changed, fine. But his defenders' "who amongst us wasn't a jr. Nazi" act is pathetic.
And, maybe this is just my own retrograde masculine attitudes talking but if you want to win with men, maybe do it by taking some fucking responsibility.
Not blaming the article but the entire framing of this as if it was "The Democrats" job to dig a candidate out of the hole rather than Planter's job to prove he's still viable speaks to how backward things have become. If he wants to win let him explain himself.

Platner puts Democrats through a political stress test
The Maine Senate hopeful hasn’t lost his progressive backers — but one is already distancing himself from the candidate’s posts.

I'm not sure what it would take to soften my "people with Nazi tattoos shouldn't hold high office" position but this weak-ass "can't win men without a few Nazis" shit ain't it.
Graham Platner to @daveweigel.bsky.social:
"How do you expect to win back men when you go back through somebody’s Reddit history and just pull it all out and say: ‘Oh, my God, this person has no right to ever be in politics?’"

DSCC Chair Gillibrand: “It’s up to the voters of Maine to decide.”

we are not having a lot of luck with institutional pushback - everyone who does is fired and replaced

we are definitely not having any luck with “norms”

what we are having luck with is ordinary people looking at the incompetent bullshit put in front of them and going “absolutely not”
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro lost 3x in a closely watched case that arose during the transfer of detainees to ICE outside of the D.C. jail.

~three grand jury no bills;
~one acquittal by the judge;
~one acquittal by the petit jury.

Juries are doing their jobs.

Is there any subject this man doesn't have the right opinion on?
as i watch it i really do think i prefer TOMORROW NEVER DIES to GOLDENEYE
In addition to the movie hitting all of the right beats harder and more confidently I really think the it benefits from going with a standard evil megalomaniac villain rather than yet another riff on the "We're not so different, you and I," trope.

Not gonna link the troll but Bari Weiss clearly represents “thought police” more than 100,000 Bluesky leftists scolding you for writing a defense of Weiss ever will, and ignoring that reality is clearly designed to curry the favor of thought police. You’re not a free thinker, you’re the boot licker.
I didn't read it as an endorsement but are you saying "that's just the way it is" or are you saying, perhaps in the example you're citing, CNN could/should extract a price for lying?

Different dynamics but obviously 4 years of the NY Times v. Biden proves media can do this when they choose.

Blueskyism is telling people who aren’t usually told that they are wrong that they are wrong.

the hiring of Olivia Nuzzi by Vanity Fair makes the new rules of media clear:

❌ lightly criticizing Charlie Kirk

✅ FaceTime fingerblasting with your story’s subject, RFK Jr.

The delicious end to the affair. 48 hours of the most august and respectable institutions prostrating themselves over a low rent gutter bigot with a middling podcast and as soon as his death didnt fit the narrative Trump says "RIP to that man, check out my new drapes" humiliation after humiliation

The thing that is hard to communicate is that that specific flavor of “brainrotted 4chan slug with incoherent beliefs” is also downstream of the right wing politics factories dumping glowing nuclear sludge into the river

there’s a reason nihilism has risen and it wears Rush Limbaugh’s face

Guns make weak, dumb people feel strong and smart, and leads them to fantasize about being applauded for killing someone.
Minor thing to focus on but isn't the whole"burn the boats" thing a story about Cortez and/or other Spanish Conquistadors? Yeah it's just a metaphor people half-remember from The Hunt for Red October but is she too stupid to realize Alexander the Great was not exactly known for crossing oceans?
JFC, his evidence for people picking on him is how often he trended in 2018-2021, aka a period with 2 major election cycles during which he was the head of a well-respected site for polling analysis rather than a noted dunderhead who grasps at irrelevant data points even when he's being a crybaby.
Again, I love it here. We have some beautiful parks. Well, for now anyway. Last I heard they were going to cut a paved bike lane thru Sepulveda Basin because its easier to rip up a park than to have those cars speeding down Victory give up some sq ft, right Imelda Padilla?
Also, as one of the few lucky enough to own an affordable home here, who loves it, ain't nobody looking to find their LA dream on a stretch of Victory between a burnt out pot dispensary and the empty office buildings where they do the cheap pet vaccines on Sunday. They want homes, not fantasies.
I have lived in the part of the valley she's talking about for 15 years. You could build a 60 story building, put the world's first combo Costco/Trader Joe's and quantum lock it so it's always noon on a Saturday and still not need more parking at Victory/Balboa.
Here’s the clip of CM Padilla bragging about reducing the size of a 100% affordable housing project in her district and increasing the amount of parking while arguing against the transit oriented upzoning bill SB 79.

(ED 1 is an affordable housing program in LA.)
