genuinely one of my biggest recommendations for emulating older games is getting your hands on a scan of the manual somewhere. having that at least accessible is an intended part of the design and experience and a lot of shit that's "obtuse" by modern standards is just expecting you to read it
I'm older than you so I can confirm that they came with a little book that had the tutorial in it and you read it on the way home

I think the rest of the computing industry will be better off the faster AI craters. If AI manages to limp along for much longer it's going to take down a bunch with it and we'll have more to rebuild
