Atlantis megathread index thread!

1. Maurice Doreal, David Icke and Lizard People: bsky.app/profile/part...
First up, I found the origin of David Icke's Lizard People theory.

At some point between 1930 and 1938 (sources differ) a Californian guru named Maurice Doreal (really Claude Doggins from Arkansas) published The Emerald Tablets of Thoth the Atlantean.

Co-signed. Labyrinths was a hugely important early book for me; you can probably draw a pretty direct line from that to my current endless fixations
Horror/Weird fiction writers should all be studying Borges. His stories are a labyrinth of wonders, but they also offer so many entryways into the weird, fantastic, and creepy.

there is value to saying the whole thing with your chest but that approach requires a level of conviction and precision these stories lack
Either use the metaphor or say it with your whole chest, this shit where you look back to the audience and wink at us for approval is hack behavior

I have been saying this for years.

If you wanted to do it with something awful and obnoxious, Do They Know It's Christmas? is available. Do that one instead.

No? Well if you want a mythic-level challenge, you could do All I Want for Christmas is You. I dare you.

Just leave George alone.
Listening to Last Christmas because it is an all-time banger and George didn't die on Christmas Day for you to disrespect his memory by participating in Whamageddon

Whenever I see the grotto in an Anglican church hall Xmas Fair I do always find myself wondering if St Nick tells the kids not to be afraid to punch people if they deny the hypostatic divinity of Christ in ecumenical councils.

Look, I can't excuse this.

Humbled to be in the company of this thread.

Eight years ago, I was deep in working out the theory of what a Pagan Village Conspiracy was as a trope, what it signified, and its origins.

Now? I think it's a good name for a band.

Just been to see The Carpenter's Son (2025). My friends and I had the cinema entirely to ourselves.

It was objectively terrible, and the shot of a dead Nic Cage with a halo needs to be a meme.

I absolutely adored it. I love an apocryphal gospel, me, and this did not disappoint me.

What a world we live in when you can mention a novel by Michael Crichton about a futuristic theme park built with negligibly advisable super science going wrong with deadly consequences when the attractions fight back against their owners and you've only got a 50% chance of knowing which one it is.

Went looking up some occult stuff from the shelf for a friend and was reminded of how no one ever seems to have picked up on how the Outer Gods in Grant Morrison's early #2000AD series Zenith are directly lifted from the demon illustrations in Peter Carroll's Psychonaut.

Just cos an incredibly weird scifi show that got abruptly cancelled on a massive cliffhanger because of a change in leadership at the network and hasn't been talked about for years MIGHT have Blu-ray boxsets, that doesn't mean anyone would actually *buy* them...

Oh. Yeah. As you were.

Top five film genres:
★they were on Earth all along
★puppets
★human evolution, screaming, bodies gaining extra holes, but is it really
★angry women who are actually robots
★there's another one, can't possibly think what it could be right now, wouldn't be surprised if you can help with that
Top five film genres:
-Everything's black & white and French, a young girl drowns in the end
-Everything's black & white, it's London, a small-time con man runs for his life
-Peter Cushing dramatically lifts one index finger
-'it isn't real. the magic isn't real'
-someone drives a car in Iran
Top five film genres:

- someone is so horny that they die

- more uh-ohs for the working class

- movies everyone thinks are boring but me

- science fiction made for as little money as possible and is sort of about social issues

- something bad is happening in Japan or possibly France

That moment when you're really excited about the new Julia Ducournau movie and absolutely no one else wants to see it because you made them sit through the other two so you're planning a solo cinema trip.

Bugonia: I think I saw a bunch of reviews that said only, "WTAF was that ending" and all I could think was, you didn't see Save the Green Planet, did you?

Saw it tonight.

Interesting in that it keeps the main plot points but is actually somehow *less* cynical and bleak than the original.

Did you rate my take on it though
Did I make my partner watch The Menu just so I could read @parthenoid.bsky.social's take on it? Yes.

Did it also potentially just become a favourite film of hers? Also yes.
