Like, how would it play within the ranks of the military if Democrats were to simply tell the troops, "While you're here, waiting in line begging for food, the government is continuing to pay the oligarchs of the military-industrial complex for shit the Pentagon says it doesn't need."

I have a poorly formed theory of how Democrats need to build a policy of hate in order to engage with low-education voters in the social media era and the GOP has really been putting the ball on the tee for them.

There. Are. No. Exceptions. To. Human. Rights. If one of us isn't free, none of us are free. I want to live in a country where a politician who stands on this principle isn't the exception. But until then, Mamdani is an example of what's possible, and what we should demand from our leaders.

I wrote a little about some of the little details you might have missed in this video and why it hit me so hard as a trans person this morning:

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Ansari was recently on Kimmel and asked for his response to the backlash. Ansari talked about his participation as a brave stand to bring comedy to an oppressed people. Dude played to an audience of oppressors. No one in that audience was a member of the oppressed.

It's very important that we understand that these people are world-historical losers. Just the biggest fucking losers. Yes, they have power and use it in extremely dangerous ways. Yes, that's serious. But they do so because they are the biggest losing losers that ever losed in their loser world.

Whether you like it or not, this is our painful truth in America.
patricklasalle.bsky.social
The sooner we ditch our misguided exceptionalism, the more able we will be to not only combat the destruction we face today, but begin to envision and build the nation we want to replace the old.
patricklasalle.bsky.social
But justice is not a physical law of the universe. Justice is created and changed by human beings. The moral arc of the universe is bent towards justice BY OUR ACTIONS. To believe it as immutable is as damning and twisted a belief in American exceptionalism as that of Trump and the right.
patricklasalle.bsky.social
It feels like a lot of people, especially Dems, are taking our system for granted. They truly believe our systems are can weather this storm and freedom and democracy will naturally prevail. They believe the moral arc of the universe immutably bends towards justice.

At what point do the states treat this invasion for what it is and act accordingly? How long do states allow the rights of the people to be violated by those who don't heed lawsuits and rhetoric? The American people depend on the law, but what if no one is willing to enforce it?
patricklasalle.bsky.social
This. It is a gross violation of the Constitution. Sure, state Dems are filing suit in the courts, and perhaps that is the best action until there is a Supreme Court ruling, but Trump has shown no interest in abiding. While Dems use words and lawsuits, ICE continues to commit criminal acts.

Sending troops from Texas to forcefully occupy and suppress cities in Illinois and Oregon IN OPPOSITION TO THOSE STATES' GOVERNORS is literally a civil war and it's cooking my brain that Democrats are simply pretending it isn't happening

At what point do state and local leaders move from refusing to aid ICE to using state and local resources to actively oppose ICE to protect the people? If the courts are incapable of protecting the people, the states must act and our leaders fulfill their oaths.
