Just thinking: I am a double-boarded physician-scientist at @uclahealth.org, but I grew up in poverty. Gov't provided the welfare & foodstamps that aided my refugee family. Gov't grants subsidized my education.

I am only where I am today bc of the #America that was. And it makes me want to cry.

The amount is meaningless — less than one day of salary. But the principle is important: once the armed services are paid by the oligarchs, they become a private militia, and we no longer have a country.

People keep saying it's privately funded. That's misleading. "Privately funded" is when foundations and wealthy individuals pay for it.

At least half a dozen of these donors are major federal contractors dependent on U.S. taxpayers. This is money laundering.

I remember George HW Bush’s dog whistle digs at Mario Cuomo’s ethnicity in the late 80’s/early 90’s. I remember his “difficulty” pronouncing Mario. I remember his reluctance to refer to Cuomo as Governor. What has Andrew Cuomo learned, other than dirty tricks? Shameful.
