I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

@Nick_Davidov Asked Claude Cowork organize my wife's desktop, it stated doing it, asked for a permission to delete temp office files, I granted it, and then it goes "ooops" Turns out it tried renaming and accidentally deleted a folder with all of the photos my wife made on her camera for the last 15 years. All photos of kids, their illustrations, friends' weddings, travel, everything. It's not in trash, it was done via terminal It's not in iCloud, it already synced the new file structure. She didn't have Time Machine. Disc recovery tools can't see anything. I called Apple and they pointed me to a feature in iCloud allowing to retrieve files that were saved before but are no longer on iCloud Drive (they keep them for 30 days). I'm now watching it load tens of thousands of files. I nearly had a heart attack. Saw some birds: moorhern, swan, ducks, like 100 pigeons on a building and tree 4PM Walk done, snack! 1:15min walkie, marmite cheddar, sourdough 5PM Bugging in silence while my friend naps 6PM Two 37-year old bitches on a Sunday night, Dorf Romantik, Bugtopia, don't care (slept in other room all day) 7PM Din&Wicked pt2, there is noooo place like Home, pork belly, eggplant pepper, tofu&seafood 8PM Me predicting every twist in this movie, they changed that (watched the musical 50x or more) oh come ON! (never watched the musical) 9PM Catching up with all the #SuperbOwl posts 10PM More Steam Deck & Schitts Creek (finished Season 1) 11PM Trying to follow* Kath & Kim (what even is australian??)

To be very clear, that lady in the NYT article is not making any money with her hundreds of AI slop books.

She makes money by *convincing people* she makes money that way and getting them to pay her to teach them how to do it.

It's an evolved MLM, and the NYT is helping market it.

I have yet to see any evidence that there is a market for AI-generated books outside of people being tricked into thinking they are not AI-generated books. AKA, it is a project of scamming and deceiving people, and really should be treated as fraud

This is really the critical point: Firefox is packing its browser with AI slop functions by default; relying on a user actively choosing to turn it off.

That isn't neutral - that is a political and ideological statement that they want more reliance on these tools
These features will be available first on Firefox Nightly – an unstable test version of the browser under development – before reaching all users on 24 February. “When AI controls become available, the Block AI Enhancements toggle will be off by default,” a Mozilla spokesperson told Bleeping Computer. “AI controls will reflect your existing choices in Firefox. Features you have previously used will appear as enabled. Features you have previously turned off will appear as blocked. Features you have not used before will appear as available.”

A great horned owl plays in some tall grass growing amongst gravel. His plumicorns are raised and his yellow eyes stare forward. This is a non-releasable owl that cannot survive in the wild, and is possessed and handled with all appropriate training and permits.

Celebrating Superb Owls day, here are some of our burrowing owls being particualrly superb! Training isn't just tricks; medical behaviors like learning voluntary nail trims here mean not having to catch and restrain birds, much less stress for people and birds alike.

I keep seeing this trend on LinkedIn where people are asking ChatGPT to generate a caricature of them based on what it knows about them... wtf? It baffles me that they would not only not care about the ethics of such frivolous AI but then also not be embarrassed to post it in a professional space

My tiny linocut burrowing owl is printed with a hint of ground line on a white Japanese paper background in pale brown ink with a grey beak and yellow and black eyes. It stares at the viewer looking fearsome despite its small size and the way it looks like it is wearing jaunty pantaloons. My tall narrow linocut on white Japanese paper shows a screech owl that is perched on branch with its body facing left but its head is turned forward to look straight at the viewer. It is printed in dark brown ink. As described, The symbols of Québec, its provincial bird, the snowy owl and its tree, the yellow birch cover the hand-carved map of Québec in this linocut. The owl swoops across a stand of birch. The block was inked 'à la poupée' (with different colours, Payne's gray, gold, black and yellow, in different areas) and printed by hand on lovely Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper. Each print is 23.5 cm by 31.8 cm (9.25" by 12.5").
