The shameless GOP lying about the No Kings gatherings scheduled for next Saturday reveals how deeply hostile much of the Republican Party is to “the right of the people peaceably to assemble.” I look forward to our local No Kings event, and urge my fellow Americans to attend in their communities.
I'm OK with the Sunday talk shows hosting craven, lying Rs - as long as the hosts challenge every lie (expressed or implied) steadfastly in realtime. Have fact checkers whispering in their earpieces. These can be opportunities for people to hear the lies being pushed and rebutted.

BREAKING: Friday night massacre underway at CDC. Doznes of "disease detectives," high-level scientists, entire Washington staff and editors of the MMWR (Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report) have all been RIFed and received the following notice:
On an off-note: do the emails forwarded by the employees to their personal accounts have signature line blaming the Democrats for the shutdown & RIF, as with the previous auto-replies?

It's really sad how people struggling to free or defend their countries, like Zelensky and this woman, have to repeatedly debase themselves in front of this man because there is no longer any responsible leader of the Free World.

Q: How many layoffs have you authorized?

TRUMP: It'll be a lot. And it'll be Democrat-oriented.
hostilities are ended or disaster has destroyed civil order; not to supplement local LE or help with everyday life.

If Benioff wants the admin to help, get Trump to do what the government was doing: fund expansions of healthcare, housing, eduction, LE, etc.

He could even do some of that himself.

Guy in private plane doesn’t like that he has to hire more security to address his personal concerns about crime so he is happy to have the president push guardsmen into the city at taxpayer expense.

"Career prosecutors determined that there was no evidence to support these charges. They were pushed out and replaced with individuals whose only qualification is their loyalty to a single man, not to the Constitution or the law. That is corruption. That is abuse of power...we must all speak out."

It’s maybe not shocking that the institutions closest to fact—district judges, juries—have proven most robust against an onslaught of lies, but it’s to journalism’s eternal shame that it has behaved like the political institutions and not the honest ones.

unlike the rest of these folks (and unlike appellate judges and supreme court justices), the job of a district judge is essentially to see what's in front of them
chrislhayes.bsky.social
It's very striking how clearly they seem to see what's right in front of their faces in way that so many others -- law firm partners, university presidents, members of congress, and on and on -- refuse to.

If GOP wants to abolish the filibuster over this, awesome. It helps Rs way more than Ds. It’s also a central reason for loss of faith in government over the last 25 yrs. Rs can reopen the govt tonight if they want. If they want to do it to make sure 15 million lose their health care that’s on them.

My boss is a Reagan Republican and has been enraged since this all started. I seem to remember being plenty angry at that group of Republicans back then but again, nothing like this.
Benioff and others urging deployment of the military to cities in response to urban issues (crime, homelessness, unaffordability) clearly don't understand a goddamn thing about the police or the military. The military has one job when deployed to populated areas: maintain absolute control after...
I didn't know "The Founders" established a 60-vote threshold to protect the country. I thought it might have instead been the explicit ability of Congress to impeach and remove the president. Or the separation of powers. Or the 2 houses of Congress.

They provided so many actual mechanisms.
